Co., New York, engine room clock, 8 day, time only, spring-driven jeweled balance wheel movement in a red brass case with hinged bezel, 8 inch silvered dial with Arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds, and black steel Breguet style hands, movement serial number 167712.
CONDITION: Brass case has many fingerprints and uneven tarnish spots. Glass is absent. Locking bezel comes with a working cabinet style key. Silvered dial is in excellent condition and may have been redone. Seconds bit is missing. Black paint is flaking off of hands near the center arbor. Movement ticks briskly.

CONDITION: The brass case is in excellent condition, having been polished fairly recently. The dial has been resilvered, so it looks very good. The dial is not signed. The applied brass numerals indicate that this is one of Chelsea's "Special" dials. The hands are correct. The signed movement is serial number 81049.

Original painted dial is in pretty good condition for its age with some staining at the winding arbor. Original pendulum. Movement is signed.

CONDITION: case is in very good condition and has had an application of clear finish applied over the original. Wood weight baffle has split horizontally and been repaired. Bezel glass is wavy. Lower tablet has been repainted with care. The metal dial has very fine craquelure. A large section of the center of the dial has been touched up with white paint. The color match is quite good, but the new paint has a bit less gloss compared to the original. Bluing is somewhat worn off of hands. Very nice pendulum with damascened pattern. Signed movement with spoked hour wheel is stamped with serial number is 438. A very hard-to-find model.

DESCRIPTION: Jerome & Co., New Haven, Conn., cottage clock, 30-hour, time and strike with lamp-lighting burglar alarm, spring driven movement in a mahogany veneered case with decorative thermoplastic inserts in upper and lower parts of door, painted metal dial, and steel hands.
CONDITION: Mahogany veneered cottage style case has a few dings and may have been given a new coat of clear finish. The painted metal dial has losses and the opposite side is also painted. Hands are period, but a bit early for this clock. Nice wood label inside of the door. The alarm triggers a lighting device on the top of the case. Matches are placed in the upright cylinder next to the oil lamp wick. An abrasive strip is held in the jaws of a spring loaded clamp. When the alarm is tripped -- by the alarm dial or stings attached to protected areas -- the abrasive strip is pulled across the matches, lighting the wick, while the alarm bell sounds. The device appear to be complete, but some small part or parts may be absent. The wires connecting the exterior triggers to the inner trip plate will need to be added back. This is a model not seem before by this firm and probably very rare.

CONDITION: the case retains an old finish with multiple rejoints reglued. There is a 2 1/2" triangular repair to lower right side of drum top. The lower tablet has been professionally repainted and the original glass with fractures is present separately. The throat tablet is original. The dial is original with scattered paint loss. The baffle and tied down at bottom of case are absent. There is a partial Aaron Willard Jr. repair label in base.

The dials are in good condition. The wood mask around the dials has been secured with modern Phillips head screws. The weights, crest, bottom and all finials are original.

CONDITION: case with original finish. Two long vertical cracks in backboard have been glued. Movement and dial have be remounted with some wood added to the worn holes. Tip of center finial has been repaired. Door glass is an old replacement. Paper dial is replaced. Very nice signed example of Kroeber's Pendulum with black background and graduated scale for rate adjustment. The signed movement features an interesting half-deadbeat verge -- the type in which only the exit pallet has a separate impulse face. Rear paper label clearly shows the make and model.

CONDITION: The case is in excellent condition and retains its original finish. The original painted dial is in excellent condition. The hands are original. The movement is signed. The door glasses are original. The brass dial, bezel, weight and pendulum bob are original. The case back shows a factory date of June, 1912. The is an excellent example of one of the more scarce Seth Thomas regulators. We have had only two in the past 10 years.

DESCRIPTION: Seth Thomas Clock Co., Thomaston, Conn. for Jarvis Universal Clock Co., Chicago, Illinois, "Jarvis World Clock", 30 day, time only, twin spring movement in an oak case with 19 inch 24 hour dial showing time of day for points around the globe.
CONDITION: Case has an original finish which has darkened. Patriotic decals on front corners of the case have faded, but the Jarvis trademark in the center is still easy to read. The multi-part dials are paper over metal. The rear dial has yellowed and has some staining along the right edge. The shaded portion on the bottom half of the dial to indicate night has faded. The inner dial is in good condition. A crude paper cover hides the two apertures in the dial which once displayed the day of the week dial which is now absent. Paper instructions for installing and regulating the clock are pasted below the dial. The door glass is old. The signed twin spring Seth Thomas movement has its stopworks and supplementary bevel gears with drop shafts to facilitate winding from the bottom of the closed case. The Jarvis World Clock was mentioned in the introduction to a book they published titled "The Story of Time" by Albert B. Olsten, published in 1915. The model is identical to the "Square Gallery" shown in Ly's Seth Thomas book.

DESCRIPTION: Attributed to Claude Galle, a monumental Verde Antico and gilt bronze mantel clock, "Hector's Farewell to Andromache", the stepped base resting on 6 four paw feet, palmette and bellflower ornamented base molding, the front with bas relief of Hector attempting to convince Paris to defend Troy, and with flanking mounts representing love and fidelity, and surmounted by figures of Hector and Andromache, Hector dressed for battle, and Andromache with a pained expression and holding their son Astyanax, the figures flanking the octagonal clock case containing a large, two train movement of 15 day duration, and with date function, roman numeral white enamel dial with inner date chapter, gilt and engraved brass hands with blued steel date indicator
CONDITION: case very dirty, but appears to retain its original gilding, slight gap between base molding and upper part of base, can be closed by loosening nuts and realigning the components, marble with minor flakes and chips, the small casting representing part of Andromache's puddled dress on the case top missing, dial with a few minor scratches and a very faint hairline at the center, movement ticks and strikes, old conversion from silk thread suspension to steel, back cock appears to be correct, pendulum replaced. This clock is nearly identical to a number of examples in public and private collections, including one in the Russian Royal Collection, Catherine wing of the palace of Montplaisir at Petrodvorest, another, formerly intended for the Grand Salon of the Petit Trianon apartments is pictured in Dupuy- Bayalet "Pendules du Mobilier National 1800- 1870", page 111, plate 47, and a third is at the headquarters of the Ministry of Finance in Paris, and illustrated in Dumonthier "Les Bronzes du Mobilier National, Pendules et Cartels", plate 37. Christie's New York sold a nearly identical example with a bronze base in 2014, sale 2884, 10/21/2014, lot 288, which realized $30,000.00.

DESCRIPTION: Mathurin Souge, a Paris, a 17th century French "Hague Clock", the oak and walnut case with burl walnut veneer, the top, base and door with ebonized moldings, the sides having arched windows with ebonized surrounds, and top with two iron loops for hanging, interior of the case back with figured walnut veneers bordered by plain walnut with ebonized string inlay, red velvet lined brass plate with gilt dial and fancy pierced and engraved gilt hands, the minute hand with steel tip, hinged, engraved lambrequin below 6:00, signed "Mathurin Souge, A Paris", and concealing a small aperture allowing access to start the pendulum, 30 hour two train movement powered by a single barrel, and counting the hours on a bell, crown wheel escapement and silk thread suspension with cycloidal cheeks, and decorative, pierced steel levers for strike train warning and locking, and pendulum with heavy, spherical bob.
CONDITION: case with a few veneer repairs, ebonized surfaces with minor wear, back with split at vertical joint, edges of back with strips to compensate for shrinkage, interior of back panel veneer with splits and dried glue run at left, right side glass loose, velvet replaced, dial regilded, and lacking infill in numerals, hands and cartouche with wear to gilding, steel tip of minute hand replaced, movement with repairs to count wheel lever and spring, back cock repaired, minor oxide on steel components, ticking and striking, pendulum replaced, with later key. There are inconsistencies with period practice and methods evident in this piece, but there are other aspects which seem to support an early date of manufacture. Mathurin Souge does not appear in any of the standard horological references listing makers, but he is included in "Archives de l'art Francais", page 103, under "Horlogers", as having his work at the "Maison De La Duchess D'Orleans" (House of the Duchess D'Orleans)

Brocot & Delettrez, Paris, France, for Tiffany, Young & Ellis, New York, double dial calendar clock, 8 day, time and strike with rolling moon and calendar indicating day, date, and month perpetually, spring driven movement with visible Brocot escapement in a molded white marble case with white enamel dials, beveled glasses, and blued steel hands.
CONDITION: The white marble case has a few very tiny chips along a few edges, but no major losses. Striking is the fact that the large back door is intact. Sadly, someone engraved a Social Security Number into the top of the back door. If placed against a wall, this will not be visible. Enamel clock dial is excellent. The signature of retailer is clear and sharp.The calendar dial is also in excellent condition, showing the days and months in English and the rolling moon on a field of stars. The well made time and strike movement with open Brocot escapement on the dial, with original carnelian pallets. The movement is signed. Both movements look clean. A very nice example.

DESCRIPTION: France, three piece mantel garniture set, 8 day, time and strike, spring driven pendule de Paris movement in a metal case of classic architectural form with stepped base, six full Corinthian columns flanking an ashlar facade with central arch, a painted ceramic panel within displaying a gilt chapter ring with Roman numerals, a scene of royals walking amidst an ancient city below the dial, all topped by a pediment with applied gilt ornament, two matching urns, both with painted ceramic panels.
CONDITION: The gilding has worn off of much of the arch and the roof of the building will need to be secured, but otherwise this is an attractive and impressive case. The left end of the applied ornament in the pediment is absent. Beautiful, unsigned, painted ceramic panels on all three pieces. Substantial urns with matching architectural details. There is a tiny chip to the ceramic panel below one of the urns. Knob for back door is missing. The movement is signed with the initials "E. A." on either side of an anchor. Strikes on large cathedral gong.

CONDITION: Gilding has worn off of much of the brass moldings in spots. Remarkably, the stone case and moldings have almost no chips. Cast metal column with figures is in very good condition. Retailer name on the sunken portion of the dial is just barely visible. Polished black slate dial is excellent. Good hands and beveled glass. The black slate case parts could use some cleaning. The movement is signed "E.M." and strikes on a bell. The Muses were Greek goddesses who ruled over the arts and sciences and offered inspiration in those subjects. This clock is heavy if shipping is a consideration.

Marti & Cie, Paris, France, oval crystal regulator, 8 day, time and strike, spring driven pendule de Paris movement in a gilt brass case with four curved beveled glasses, cloisonné trim in bands around the case top and bottom, dial, and on the frame of the compensating pendulum, cream colored enamel dial with Arabic numerals, gilt hands, and double-vial pendulum.
CONDITION: The case is dusty and dirty and could stand polishing, but otherwise this is a clean clock. All four curved beveled glasses are good. Well made movement with Brocot escapement between the plates has the Marti 1889 award stamp. It is also stamped "Made in France" The dial is perfect but for some very small losses along the bottom edge that have been masked with a bit of white filler. Rack and snail strike sounds on a cathedral gong. Just a bit of attention will make this a very nice clock.

DESCRIPTION: Vincenti & Cie, Paris, France for A. Fiocati, Berlin, Germany, miniature tall clock, 8 day, time and strike, spring driven diminutive pendule de Paris movement in a lyre-form case with tortoise shell veneer and applied ormolu mounts, cream colored enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, and gilt Louis XV style hands.
CONDITION: There are a few cracks in the veneer, but no losses. Cast metal ornaments are very good. There is a small repaired break in the signed dial above the 12. Curved beveled glass in the front of the case is good. The movement will need to be secured to the case. The movement is signed by Vincenti as wall as being stamped "H & F / Paris ". This clock last sold for $1300 in September of 2014.

DESCRIPTION: France, ceramic and ormolu mantel clock, 8 day, time and strike, spring driven pendule de Paris movement in a vibrant porcelain vase-form case mounted on a gilt metal base with floral swag, flanked by horned rams, and topped with an urn finial, polychrome painted dial with putto, gilt hands.
CONDITION: the cast brass case is in excellent condition with much of the gilding intact. Painted dial is perfect. Convex beveled glass is very good. Original hands. Movement is signed "Vassy Jejre / Paris ". Serial number on the back of movement matches the one stamped on the pendulum.

DESCRIPTION: Vincenti & Cie, Paris, France, crystal regulator, 8 day, time and strike, spring driven pendule de Paris movement in a glazed brass case on cast bun feet supporting fluted columns on the front corners and pilasters on the back corners, stepped and molded base and top with repeating palmette and laurel fretwork, matching pendulum, Roman numeral white enamel dial with red Arabic numerals at the quarters, and blued steel Breguet style hands.
CONDITION: The partially gilt case is in very nice condition with some yellowing and spotting of the polished brass. Some gilding remains within the column flutes. All four beveled glass are good. The white enamel dial is perfect, but for a bit of dirt. Hands are original and in good condition. Nice matching pendulum. The signed Vincenti movement strikes on a gong. A clean and attractive clock.

DESCRIPTION: Charles Hour, Paris, for Bigelow, Kennard, & Co., Boston, crystal regulator, 8 day, time and strike, spring driven pendule de Paris movement with Brocot escapement and compensating pendulum in an oval form glazed gilt brass case with cream colored enamel dial with arabic numerals and blued steel hands.
CONDITION: The brass case retains much of its original gilding on the lower half. The top of the case has turned dull brown. All four curved beveled glasses are perfect. The porcelain dial -- signed by Bigelow and Kennard -- is in excellent condition. Nice double-vial pendulum. Light oxidation on the original hands. The movement bears the "JUST" logo that belonged to Charles Hour. The movement retains a bright polish.

DESCRIPTION: France, Empire portico clock, 8 day, time and strike, spring driven pendule de Paris movement in a polished black slate case on cast brass feet, the base and top with applied gilt rose ornaments, four Corinthian columns with gilt bases and capitals, the gilt bezel with repeating acanthus leaf design, gilt chapter ring with Roman numerals, cast dial center and gridiron pendulum both with floral designs, blued steel Breguet hands.
CONDITION: There are some very small chips to the stone case along the edges and one slightly larger chip on the front center of the base. Original gilt surfaces are very good. The finish on the hands is slightly dulled from oxidation. The suspension block has been augmented to be adjustable. The unsigned movement strikes with a count wheel and bell.

DESCRIPTION: France, lantern clock, 30 hour, time and strike, weight driven movement, verge escapement with upward facing crown wheel, thread suspension with side-mounted pendulum, posted iron frame resting on short iron feet, brass front with integrated dial showing Roman numerals, single iron hand, topped by bell and pierced brass fronton.
CONDITION: Dial is lightly tarnished. Heavy iron hand. The movement is fairly clean. Light oxidation on iron frame. Movement has the time train in the front and strike train in the rear. The pendulum is suspended from the right side. The movement employs a rope drive. Count wheel strike for the hours and passing strike for the half hours. Lot includes a single iron weight. No pendulum. No evidence of, or provision for, sides or back. This clock was sold by Ivoire Saint-Etienne on October 13th, 2012 as lot number 30.

DESCRIPTION: France, probably Eugene Farcot, Paris, swinging doll clock, 8 day, time only, spring driven movement employing the chaff-cutter escapement with two escape wheels in an alabaster case with white enamel chapter ring and putto figure pendulum swinging front-to-back.
CONDITION: Very small edge and corner chips the case edges. White speckling on the front of base. Putto is original and was touched up with gold paint. The porcelain dial has three fine hairline cracks. There never was a bezel or front glass because this clock originally was placed under a glass dome. The movement is stamped with serial number 7989, "Chappement Brevet", a trademark featuring a bird with arrows and "FOT" which was used to indicate "Farcot ". Breguet style hands are original and have had some gold paint applied. Base was reglued with modern adhesive.
