DESCRIPTION: France, Comtoise lantern clock, 8 day, time and strike with alarm, weight driven movement with verge escapement, thread suspension with rear-hanging pendulum in a posted iron frame case, heavy brass chapter ring with Roman numerals, single brass hand, alarm ring with Roman numerals, applied brass spandrels with hearts, all resting on turned iron feet in the front, and topped with a thick pierced brass fronton flanked by two turned brass finials.
CONDITION: The iron front is in two pieces with a seam running along the left side behind the chapter ring. Visible brass parts have been cleaned and show fine scratches. Some light rust on iron and steel parts. Both wood winding drums have large cracks. Many fine construction details within the movement including: decorative nuts, turned steel linkages and supports, and a curlicue on the end of strike trip lever. This clock has an uncommon pivoted and curved rack with teeth on both sides. Unlike most clocks of this vintage, it also employs one counterweight within the strike train. Movement pillars have a slight flare with triangular cutout in the bottoms. Four bladed iron fly. Three hammers: one for hour strike, one for passing strike on the half hour, and one for the alarm. Sides and back are absent. The clock does not come with weights or a pendulum. This clock was sold by Ivoire Saint-Etienne on October 13th, 2012 as lot number 57.

DESCRIPTION: Gebrüder Junghans AG, Schramberg, Germany, "World Time Clock", 8 day, time only, spring driven pendulum movement in a metal case taking the form of a windmill, a primary clock dial in the base and subsidiary dials radiating from the top showing times for other locations on the globe including Paris, Peking, Amsterdam, Petersburg.
CONDITION: Paint is flaking off of the sheet metal tower. Green composition at the base is starting to chip off. Celluloid dial on the main clock is badly cracked. Only four the eight upper dials are present. All four have their hands. The movement escapes when the pendulum leader is moved by hand. Pendulum bob is absent. When working, the windmill vanes would turn once per hour via a vertical shaft from the movement below. Each small dial has a set of motion works to advance the individual hands. The movement is signed only "Germany" and "140" Clearly, this piece is a candidate for parts or considerable restoration.

DESCRIPTION: Japy Frères & Cie, Paris, France, figural mantel clock, 8 day, time and strike, spring driven pendule de Paris movement, black slate base with molded front and top supporting a cast spelter case with agrarian theme including a basket and hoe, and seated female figure with a sickle in one hand and a sheaf of wheat in the other, white enamel dial with Roman numerals, and blued steel Breguet hands.
CONDITION: The black slate case has some chips at the corners. The white enamel dial has fine cracks in the lower right portion. The spelter figure has been touched up with paint. The clock and figure were glued to the top of the slate case in recent years and the brown epoxy is visible along some of the edges. If this clock ever had feet they are now absent.

DESCRIPTION: Parts- 2 (Two) Figural Statues: (1) France, after Auguste Moreau, "The Water Carrier", cast spelter with bronze patination, depicting a child carrying a large vase by a rope; (2) France, swinging mystery clock base, cast spelter with bronze patination, featuring a woman in flowing dress with two putti at her side, both early 20th Century.
CONDITION: (1) The figure is in excellent condition with no breaks or repairs. The patination is also very good. The vase the figure is meant to carry is absent. One of the four small feet is also missing. The figure is signed on the base in the back. It also has a small tag indicating that it was fabricated in France. (2) The statue is in good condition except for the arm of the putto on the right, whose arm has broken off, and which is included with the lot. The bronze patination has worn and scratch off in many places. Dimensions are for "The Water Carrier" (1). Sold "as is ".

DESCRIPTION: Reproduction Ferris wheel gravity timepiece, 8 day, time only, weight driven balance wheel movement in a glazed wood case with applied brass ornaments, polychrome enamel dial, a small barometer dial below, and alcohol thermometer adjacent, all surmounted by a patinated brass lion.
CONDITION: Case with a few small dents on the back side is in very good overall condition. Nice patina on the cast metal elements. Dial with brilliants is in fine condition. Comes with a set of steel balls. She steel balls are loaded onto an inclined plane in the top front compartment of the clock from which they role down to fill the chambers of the Ferris wheel assembly located in the rear of the clock. The weight of the balls causes the wheel to rotate which in turn drives the mechanism. The balls drop from the Ferris wheel into the base of the clock which is accessed from a drawer in the front.

German made time and strike brass movement.(2) Mahogany and mahogany veneered case in an old and possibly original finish. The zinc dial was repaired in the center and the winding hole has been enlarged. The dial has darkened a little with some surface stains. The dial is signed "A. Hornby, Wethersfield ". The case now contains a Kilbourn & Proctor movement. Both tablets are later replacements. Replaced hands. The cast brass bezel and it's attached mounting ring looks to be the type used by the Waterbury Clock Co. It doesn't fit the head very well as a couple mounting holes are outside the case sides.

CONDITION: This model of clock as shown in Ly's Gilbert reference has a metal case with raised letters and trim in black. This example was well-crafted from solid wood to look like a whiskey bottle. The white and black paint do appear to have some age. The silver paint on the cap is more recent and was not applied with care. Gilbert timepiece movement and silvered dial. The words "8 day" on the dial have been strengthened.

DESCRIPTION: Barometers- 2 (Two) Henry J. Green, Brooklyn, New York, stick barometers, in black metal cases with brass hardware, silvered scales reading 26 to 33 with small vernier scale, thermometers on the outside of instruments, all in fitted finger-jointed wood cases with gimbaled mounts.
CONDITION: black finish is scratched off of the brass cases in many places. Neither instrument has mercury. Both thermometers appear to be complete and working. Packaging tape and residue on both wood cases. Henry J. Green was the nephew of and successor to instrument maker James Green. When James retired in 1885, the name of the firm was changed to Henry J. Green: Many of the barometers made in the United States between 1840 and 1940 were manufactured by this company.

DESCRIPTION: Polyphon Musikwereke, Leipzig, Germany, "Polyphon Orchestrion II" or "Polyphon Rossini" Upright Music Box, piano with drum and trap effects model, coin operated, weight driven, playing 73 note cylinder rolls containing 3 tunes each, in a mahogany case with reverse painted frosted glass doors above and cabinet with two doors below resting on four casters
CONDITION: the case retains its original finish. There are chips and roughness all along the edges of the upper left cornice and lowest molding. Three pieces of dentil molding surrounding the top are damaged. The molding below upper cabinet has two areas near rear that are damaged on each side. The rear right caster has some water damage above where it is anchored. Includes three rolls, all with tears and four pulleys to carry the weight, which is not included. The fabulous reverse painted glasses are in good condition with one scratch. The box could not be tested for function without the weight. For reference please see pages 164- 167 in the "Encyclopedia of Automatic Musical Instruments" by David Bowers.

CONDITION: the case retains an old finish with some scratches and scuffs on top and along edges. The winding crank is a replacement and the key to music box lid is absent. DESCRIPTION: B.A. Bremond, Geneva, Switzerland, 5 tunes with a 17 inch cylinder playing on a three-piece comb using two mainsprings in a dark hardwood case with paper tune card under the lid and engraved tune card within the box, paper label with operating instructions in French, and a handwritten bill for the sale or upgrade of the machine signed by B.A. Bremond, serial number 18216
CONDITION: The movement is a bit dull and dirty, but the box sounds very good. The dark wood case has some small areas of finish loss on the lid, edges, and corners. There are two broken teeth. The lid has a 4 inch crack starting on one end. The bill included with the lot is on B.A. Bremond letterhead and is dated 1880. The bill was address to Mr. Henry C. Gibson in Philadelphia who was presumably its first owner. Gibson was a businessman, distiller, philanthropist, and art collector. His collection of American sculpture and European paintings was given to the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts after his death in 1891.

CONDITION: The box is in good condition. It has some scratches in the wood on the top and bottom of the lid and may have been refinished some time ago. It is missing a small piece of molding on the back left corner. The movement looks fairly clean and the tunes change as they should. The bells and hammers have nice polychrome flower and butterfly ornaments. No tune card under the lid. No key for lid lock.

DESCRIPTION: Switzerland for Heeren Bros. & Co., Pittsburgh, Penn., "Ideal Excelsior" interchangeable cylinder music box, 6 tunes using a 9 inch cylinder playing on a one piece comb with 60 teeth, mechanism with Jacot's safety check and speed control in a lidded oak case with molded base and top, applied oak ornament on the front, and retailer label under lid. The lot comes with four 9 inch cylinders which come in a matching oak case.
CONDITION: The two wood cases are in excellent condition and were probably restored in the past. The cylinder storage box lid has a long seam where a glue joint is located. The nickel plated movement and cylinders are clean and bright. The nickel plate has worn off of the plaque with patented dates on one edge. Retailer label is a bit faded. Comb is stamped with "ST" or "TS" trademark.

CONDITION: The case in is in very good overall condition with some small scratches and wear at the edges and top. Decoration on the front is mostly worn off. The Music box plays when wound and changes to the next tune as it should. Label inside lid is new and no song titles are listed. Barrel cap is dented and barrel teeth are a little worn from the click. One tooth has been dovetailed back in. Nickel plated movement.
