CONDITION: (1) The case has been nicely refinished. The painted dial has darkened. The spirit level integrated into the base is not working. The thermometer in the crest does appears to be working. (2) The clock is in very good condition. German movement. (3) The tip of the finial has been broken. The winding key is missing a piece, making winding difficult. Dimensions are for the "Crown Drop" (1). Sold "as is ".

CONDITION: Both clocks have old finishes, though the copper on the Clinton is not described in the old Chelsea catalogs. Silvered dials and blued steel hands are fine. Both clocks wind, tick, and set, but were not tested long term. Dimensions are for the Clinton. Sold "as is ".

(2) France, Comtoise clock, 8 day, time and strike with alarm, weight driven movement with verge escapement, thread suspension with rear-hanging pendulum in a iron post and plate frame, brass chapter ring with engraved Roman numerals, applied spandrels and pivoted winding arbor shutters, single brass hand, first half of the 18th Century.
CONDITION: (1) The dial appears to have some polishing residue around the edges. Winding arbor shutters have been on upside down for a long time. Right door will need a pin installed at the top. Large four bladed iron fan. Movement uprights with very small stepped feet. Movement is somewhat rusting and dirty. The height of the suspension shroud is 4 inches. (2) Bell is absent. Brass fronton is missing. Doors will need some mechanical attention. There is a small amount of ornamentation within the movement, including a turned escape wheel arbor support, a decorated nut, and a curved end to the strike trip piece. The brass plaque below the dial appears to stamped or engraved with initials. Four blade iron fly interferes with third wheel and will need to be adjusted. Upright movement supports have no flare or feet. Height of suspension shroud is 3.25 inches. Clock does not come with pendulum or weights. Dimensions are for the clock with its fronton (1). DESCRIPTION: Clocks- 2 (Two) English Dial Clocks: (1) Coventry / Astral, England, dial clock, 8 day, time only, spring driven fusee movement in a walnut case with painted metal dial featuring the seal of the "London Midland & Scottish Railway Company", c1925; (2) England, dial clock, 8 day, spring driven fusee movement in a wood case with oak bezel, painted metal dial, c1915.
CONDITION: (1) The wood case has an original finish. The painted metal dial has small losses just outside the chapter ring and an area of in painting to the left of the center arbor. The clock is missing its bezel and glass, as well as the backboard and pendulum. The rear wind and set movement is signed and has an intact chain for the fusee. The London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) was a British railway company formed in 1923 under the Railways Act of 192. The company was one of the world's largest transport organizations, as well as one of the largest commercial enterprises and employer in the UK. (2) The finish on the wood case has been rubbed down. The dial has two extra holes in it that have been filled, so is a replacement. Fusee movement with heavy brass plates is unsigned, but retains a chain on the fusee. Hands are a bit too small, so probably not original (or do not fit with the replaced dial). Pendulum looks correct. Dimensions are for the L.M.S. clock (1). Sold "as is ".

Ingraham Clock Co., Bristol, Conn., "Meridian" hanging clock, 8 day, time and simple calendar, spring driven movement in a wood case with paper dial, c1900; (2) Japan, copy of Waterbury "Halifax" wall clock, 8 day, time and strike, spring driven movement in a stained hardwood case, c1900. .
CONDITION: (1) Clock case may have originally had grain painting. If so that has been replaced with a newer, glossy finish. Paper dial is darkened and worn. No labels on the inside or back. The movement is signed by Ingraham. Original hands. Replaced pendulum bob. Ingraham did not list this model for in their catalog, so it is was probably made for one of the firms that purchased "premium" clocks or for a mail order firm. The clock has many features of Ingraham's "Ionic" model, but with a simple calendar in the upper section, and some extra decorative trim on the sides. (2) Case has an original finish. Dial paint has flaked off in several places. Pendulum is a modern replacement. Movement reads "Made in Japan" on the bottom edge. A respectable copy of the Waterbury model. Dimensions are for the Meridian (1). Sold "as is ".

CONDITION: (1) Mahogany and mahogany veneered case has a small repair and a piece missing on the door. Key escutcheon has been replaced. The top and base were replaced a long time ago and either are properly shaped. Original tablet has serious loss. Original painted dial has scattered loss in the center area and couple smaller spots. Original pewter hands with the hour hand having a repair. Clean label inside. (2) There is only a partial label, but according to a note inside that states the clock was made by Downs. Mahogany and mahogany veneered case in an old finish has a repair to the top half round molding.The dial is period, but did not start life in this clock. The tablet is replaced. Original scrolls. Replaced feet and skirt. Modern finials. Original hands. The front plate of the movement is maple and is stamped "Warren Cole Wood Clock Repairing 22 Jan 1860 ". Mr. Cole may have replaced the oak front plate when he repaired the movement.

CONDITION: (1) Gilding has worn off of the figures on the top of the case. Four beveled glasses are very good. Flip cards appear to be excellent. Fully wound, but not running. Lenzkirch logo on the base of the clock along with the work "Chronos" in heavy script. (2) Generally good condition. Brass is tarnished and there are a few chips to the base unit. Unit has been fitted with a modern battery holder for "C" batteries, which suggests it has worked in recent years. Movement ticks and sets. Dimensions are for the Lenzkirch (1). Sold "as is ".

CONDITION: (1) Time comes with some of the brass thimbles used to record the time of individual pigeons. Glass in one window has been replaced. These clocks were used to record the time that pigeons took to fly fixed distances. Wagers were placed on the results, so these clocks have security features to prevent tampering. (2) Some paint loss to metal case. (3) Two cracks and two edge chips to dial. Lettering on dial is very legible. Dimensions are for the pigeon timer (1) .

CONDITION: (1) Case has been rubbed down and given a thin clear coat. Nice original glass. Paper dial is a replacement. Fairly complete rear paper labels. (2) Movement was remounted off-center. Paper dial dark, spotty, and worn. Original glass and hands. Partial rear label. (3) Case has been refinished and a crack in the crest glued. Replaced paper dial and door glass. Proper embossed pendulum. Spirit level integrated into base. Identical case to the Harvard with the addition of some molding and a 180 degree turn of the topmost applied ornament. We sold this same variant back in 2005. It, too, dated to 1893, but was manufactured in a different month of that year. Dimensions are for the Gounod (1). Sold "as is ".

CONDITION: (1) Case has been partially refinished. Column gilding and faux finish are nicely restored. New metal dial, pendulum, and hands. Replaced lower tablet. Partial inner label. Weights are modern. (2) The case finish has been rubbed down and been given an application of clear coat. There are a few small scratches. The metal dial has a new paper dial over it. Negus, New York, 5.5 inch radius, blackened brass frames, signed brass arcs with inset silvered scales with graduations from 0 to 170, vernier adjustment by milled edge tangent screws, index magnifiers, one with multiple shades for horizon and index mirrors, sighting scopes, and wood handles, all in dovetailed mahogany boxes with old paper labels or repair tags.
CONDITION: black finish on brass frames has worn off on some of the edges. Scopes and eyepieces are incomplete. Silvered scales have darkened considerably. One of the wood boxes has detached hinges and a lot of packaging tape residue. One of the sextants appears never to have had sun shades. Dimensions are for wooden box. Sold "as is ".

The case is not unlike examples of the "State" series (e.g. Iowa, Kansas, Texas, etc.) sold by the American Clock Company of New York, which used movement by Welch and others.

DESCRIPTION: France, mantel clock, 8 day, time and strike, spring driven pendule de Paris movement with visible Brocot escapement in a black slate case with incised floral designs, gilt metal columns, and three classically inspired low-relief friezes depicting a crowd, chariot, soldiers, and an elephant, black slate dial with incised gold Roman numerals and gilt hands.
CONDITION: The black slate case is in very good condition. There is a small chip in the upper left corner and a few very small chips on other edges. The hands, dial, and beveled glass all look excellent. The pallets are jewels. Some gilding has worn off the metal columns. Incised patterns in the slate are silver and gold and very nice. The movement is unsigned.

The original Birge & Mallory painted wood dial has some burn marks behind the number 12 on the dial that resulted in paint damage. The dial's sliding mirror is missing, but original hands are present. An original Birge & Mallory backboard with label and gong has been fitted to the case. The tablet is by Tom Moberg. Weights are inside the case as there is no room to remove them.

CONDITION: (1) Ebonized wood case with MOP inlay in nice condition. Original dial and hands. Pendulum looks to be a modern replacement. (2) Embossed brass dial surround and pendulum has some paint on the flowers and design elements intact. There are a couple stress cracks in the brass dial surround. Porcelain dial is fine. Original hands and weights.(3) Ebonized and white painted door has darkened a little from aging of the coating over the white paint. Original marble dial has been broken in the past and repaired. Original hands and pendulum.

CONDITION: (1) Mahogany case in original finish has some scattered surface scratches. Original silvered dial has some scratches around the winding arbors. Original tablets. Nice label on the back. (2) Refinished oak case in nice condition. Dial paper has been replaced. Original hands, pendulum and tablet. Remains of a label on the back. Movement is signed. (3) Ebonized case in need of restoration. Part of the bottom bracket is missing along with the right side mirrors. Only one of the beveled mirrors is original. One of the top finials is missing. Root, Bristol, Conn., marine lever, 30 hour, time only, spring driven movement in a turned walnut case with paper dial, c1875.
CONDITION: (1) Brass case with dark patina. Painted metal dial is good with two small losses. The rear paper label is excellent. (2) A few losses to the wood veneer. Painted dial with many small scratches. Mostly complete rear label. Second hand has no dial ring associated with it. Hands are mismatched. (3) Some veneer loss. Painted dial is good. No label. Breguet style hands. (4) Solid turned wood case. Paper dial is scratched. Hands are mismatched. All four clocks tick to some degree when coaxed, but will probably need mechanical attention. DESCRIPTION: Sextants- 2 (Two) Ball Recording Sextants: Mergenthaler Linotype Company, Brooklyn, New York, "Ball Recording Sextant, Mark I, Mod. 0", 4 inch radius, solid metal frames with integrated arcs reading 0-90, 9 inch sighting scopes, 7 inch vertical drop tubes with recording devices at the bottom, all in a dovetailed wooden cases with U.S. Naval Observatory Certificates of Eccentricity, dated 1944 and 1945.
CONDITION: an unusual instrument that combines elements of a conventional sextant with a vertical tube holding a set of small steel balls. In use, the operator makes a sighting and "records" the postion of the target by using a trigger to drop the balls one at a time onto a carbon cloth that is mounted over a piece of frosted glass. The impact of the balls on the cloth leave an impression on the frosted glass below, allowing the operator to see and average several measurements taken closely together. While the accuracy of such a device is the subject of debate, its novelty is not. Very good condition. The carbon cloth will need to be replaced. Dimensions are for wooden box. Sold "as is ".
