CONDITION: The two lathes are in good working condition. Both are signed by Boley. The lathe that is not in the boxed set is of superior quality with triangular-form bed and nice chrome. DESCRIPTION: Tools- 2 (Two): (1) C. & E. Marshall Co., Chicago, Illinois, "Peerless" lathe, nickel plated, plain cone bearings with a center height of 2.0 inches, accepting standard 8mm collets, flip-up tool rest, and tailstock, c1935; (2) Crosby Steam Gage & Valve Co., Boston, Mass., "Test Gage" [sic] in a brass case, 8.25 inch silvered dial with graduations from 0 to 100, mounted in a custom wood box with hinged lid, serial number 929241, c1929.
CONDITION: (1) The plated surface has many fine scratches and light spots of rust in two places. The spindle turns with some resistance. Indexing pin is absent. The tailstock is missing the end of the spindle and the handle for the spindle lock. Tailstock spindle is frozen. It should be noted that the headstock and tailstock register with the bevels inside the slot of the lathe bed, so accessories from standard Webster-Whitcomb lathes are not interchangeable with this design. Marshall, Moseley, and Peerless lathes had 2.0 inch center height which is slightly. Comes with one Boley 8mm collet. (2) The wood box is worn from use. Brass case is tarnished. The silvered dial reads "Test Gage" and features a beautiful Crosby trademark. Someone also used a pencil to write "Test O.K. 3/6/56" on the dial. The inside of the wooden box lists a series of tests starting in 1929 and ending in 1956. The name of the instrument and portable case suggests it was used to calibrate other gauges. Dimensions are for the test gauge box. Sold "as is ".
