Kampe, Waltham, Mass. with Dayton 1/2hp motor, tailstock, flip-up tool rest, faceplate, steady rest, and 30 collets. John E. Kampe worked for the Waltham Watch Co. until he went into business making watch-related tools and equipment. The lot also includes a Kendrick & Davis "Series 600" model staking set, a Webster mainspring winder with 10 sleeves, and three clock test stands, one in aluminum with leveling feet.
CONDITION: nickel plating on lathe is worn off in spots. Tailstock ram is frozen in place. Tailstock locking cam does not seem to work. All spots in staking set are filled, though some of punches are of the taller variety so may be from a different set.

CONDITION: The case finish has lost its finish. There is minor veneer loss on the case. The original painted dial is in good condition with some loss at the mounting points. The movement is signed. The hands are original. The upper door glasses are original with the lower glass maintaining its original design and blue painted border. The lower glass door is also original with a small crack on the lower right side and some minor loss to the design on the glass. This glass also has a painted blue border with loss in the top right of the glass which is currently covered with a strip of blue tape. The wagon spring mechansim has been painted gold. A nice finish would make this a very presentable example.

CONDITION: The case has been refinishewd and has some veneer loss on the lower right front molding. The original painted dial has minor loss at the winding holes and the mounting points. The hands are period, but probably not original. The upper door glasses are original with the lower glass displaying a beautiful colored vase framed by a white border. The lower door tablet is in excellent original condition. Two of the finials show very minor loss at the top. The wagon springs chains have been replaced by wire. The case has an interior Birge and Fuller label with an overpasted label from J. J. & W. Beals in Boston. .

CONDITION: Painted cherry case has loss scattered loss on the base and top. Original pressed dial surround now has a painted dial off another clock. These clocks had a paper dial with a glass front. A picture of the correct dial can be found in NAWCC Bulletin Supplement 16, "Aaron Dodd Crane, An American Original", pg 49. Hands are not original. The door looks to be period and fits the case, but maybe a replacement as the knob on this model uses a screw thread arrangement to lock the door and is placed at the cross bar. The knob on this door it is placed lower down and does not align with existing hole on the case. Original pendulum ball. Nice green label inside. Frosted tablet is missing.

DESCRIPTION: E. Ingraham & Co., Bristol, Conn. early "Venetian" shelf clock with a spring driven, 8 day, time and strike Joseph Ives tin plate movement in a rosewood veneered case. This clock appears to be the same clock pictured on page 353 of Ken Roberts book entitled "The Contribution of Joseph Ives to Connecticut Clock Technology 1810-1862".
CONDITION: The case retains a fair amount of original finish. The dial has been repainted. The hands are original. The upper door glass is original as is the lower glass with floral design. Overall, a nice and very scarce clock. The case bears an excellent Ingraham interior label with and overpasted label describing the brass bushed rolling pinions and the rolling escapement. It is believed that E. Ingraham and N. L. Brewster bought the remaining Ives tin plate movements when Ives died and cased and sold them. A good example of this very scarce clock.

DESCRIPTION: Joseph Ives, Plainville, Conn., 8 day, time and strike, weight brass movement O.G, gilt columns and gilt leaf crest shelf clock. This case has the earlier version of the movement as it has a partial cast iron backplate. The later version made by Hills, Goodrich & Co had full cast iron backplate.
CONDITION: Mahogany veneered case in an old and possibly original finish has a couple chips on the outer band, some loss on the right side and a little damage on the bottom edge of the door. Original painted dial is in nice condition. Gilt crest and columns are very nice as well. The side mirrors on either side of the columns are missing, but easily replaced. Period mirror is replaced. Minute hand has been repaired. The original label is now attached to a french broadside dated 1886. It may be possible to separate the two. Original weights which are important as they are unique to this model clock.

CONDITION: This torsion escapement clock was designed and manufactured by Silas B. Terry and can be found with Terryville Mfg. Co. paper dials. However, Silas's cousin, Theodore Terry became head of the Terryville firm about 1854 and was also a partner in the early Ansonia Clock Company, Some of the left over Terryville clocks were fitted with cast metal dials marked "Ansonia Clock Co." and sold by that firm shortly before their Ansonia, Conn. factory was destroyed by fire. Silvering on dial has some oxidation, hands original, stand and dome are good.

CONDITION: Mahogany veneered case in an old finish in very nice condition with original scrolls and feet and skirt. Original painted dial is very nice condition with just a small imperfection above the center arbor. The center strip on the door is cracked in places and will attention to realign the pieces. Bottom tablet looks to have been restored in place. Key escutcheon is cracked. One tooth on the strike side great wheel is missing and the pinion above has one leaf missing. Finials are missing. The name Seth Thomas on the label as been abraded off, but is in otherwise a clean label.

CONDITION: Mahogany veneered case in an old finish has some minor damage at the hinge pins. The scroll top is a replacement. The feet have been replaced and a small repairs to the skirt tips. Original painted dial has some loss in the center area. Tablet is a replacement. Period hands. Movement has had repairs. The back of the dial has a label detailing some of the work done in 1968 by the late Ed LaFond. The backboard is unusual in that it has what looks to be a Chauncey Jerome label over pasted on the Hodges label. From the strip of wood on the top and underside of the top this case may have had slots for pulleys for different movement at one time and was restored back to what it is now. Bell is a replacement. Finials are replacements.

Brown, Forestville, Connecticut, acorn clock, rosewood veneered case with laminated, full-length door flanked by conforming laminated side ornaments capped with turned acorns, and framing a replacement tablet depicting two children playing with bunnies in a classical garden setting and beneath a theatrical curtain with stars in green and bronze paint, all on an ogee molded base, roman numeral zinc dial inscribed "Forestville Manufg. (sic) Co/Bristol. Ct. U.S.A.", chestnut backboard with pale green dust paper lining and card stock printed label stating "Eight Day Spring Clocks,/Manufactured by J. C. Brown,/Bristol, Conn." all within a pin-wheel border, eight day lyre shaped movement stamped "Forestville Mfg. Co./Bristol, Ct/USA" with count-wheel strike, recoil escapement and detached mounted springs and wooden fusees in the base below the card stock label.
CONDITION: Reverse-painted tablet is a painted version of the original transfer decorated tablet, both lower and upper glass are re-painted, chestnut backboard has been re-glued, re-nailed and re-positioned. It is the original backboard but due to shrinkage and strain from the springs, has required repairs through the years. Base is undisturbed. Dial probably was cleaned and relined at some point but the signature appears to be undisturbed. Movement has no significant repairs or replacements. The spade hands are incorrect and the present minute hand has a very clever repair using an old watch hand soldered to the back.

The label inside the case has turned dark, and has some flaking near the gong, but is still fully legible.. The original dial has some scrapes and some discoloration in the center; dial signature is still good. Decorated dial tablet is original. The movement is most likely from Brewster and Ingrahams -- see ribbed plate showing below the dial. A sister to this clock offered at Skinners on 4-25-15 sold for $1,353.

CONDITION: the bronze colored paint has failed in a couple of places, revealing spelter and flux beneath. The large piece of marble is very heavy and would make you think it is bronze, but it is not. Movement is sound; would benefit from cleaning. Large and imposing.

CONDITION: the retainer nuts for the lion are absent, an easy fix. Beveled glass is good, dial no defects. Bell strike movement is complete and sound; would benefit from cleaning. Cast brass fancy hands are original. Note two colors of marble, mottled cream and gray. Large and heavy, special packing required.

DESCRIPTION: Musical Themed French Figural Clock with seated lady playing a drum, the gilt spelter figure seated on a rush-seated stool and arm folded leaning on her drum which carries a white porcelain roman numeral dial and moon hands at the front and a Japy Freres eight day, rack-striking movement cast with the Freres logo, powered by two coiled springs and regulated by pendulum, a trombone and tambourine leaning on the chair complete the setting, all on an alabaster fluted base with gilt beads and raised rosette feet.
CONDITION: Some losses to gilding on spelter figure, pendulum bob only, no rod; alabaster base in good condition but could use a light cleaning.

CONDITION: Case is in generally good condition except that some gilding is worn and tarnished in spots. Gold on porcelain dial is thin in a couple of areas. Wood base with gong has been poorly glued into case. Signed movement ticks and strikes, but was not tested long term.

DESCRIPTION: Differential Power Clock Co., Chicago, "Year Running" wall clock with unique patented double spring movement in a robust oak case, and with original front tablet identifying the clock.
CONDITION: the oak case has been refinished' there is a small chip in cornice molding, top right. Minor flaking to the gilt advertising glass. The movement is powered by two extra large cprings, contained in barrels, and with stepped down gearing to assist in winding. The original silvered/alumized dial is excellent and the full original I.D. along the bottom margin = "Manufactured by Differential Power Clock Co., Chicago, U.S.A." Large winding crank is included.
