DESCRIPTION: Revere Clock, Co., Cincinnati Ohio, (division of Herschede), "Hamilton" 9 tube tall clock playing three tunes, Westminster, Whittington and Canterbury with Telechron electric movement in a dome top mahogany case with beveled glass sides and trunk door, full length full reeded columns on bun feet. The brass dial has moon phase and silvered chapter ring with applied black numerals and spandrels, c1934
CONDITION: the case retains its original finish. The right rear foot has damage and there is a deep gouge on upper right side near rear. The backboard over the movement is absent. The dial is in good condition. The tubes are marked Herschede. The history of the Revere Clock Co., is interesting and would eventually involve Herschede, General Electric and Telechron. Herschede followed the progress of Telechron and saw a future in their electric Westminster movements. However, not totally convinced of their quality or consumer acceptance, in 1927, he formed a new company at Cincinnati called the REVERE CLOCK COMPANY. CONDITION: we do not find this unique heavy clock in any catalogues, but it appears to provide signaling and/or recording functions. The dial has an outer ring of small painted numbers, the hands have positions for contacts, the lower unit shows the days of the week. The open-spring movement ticks, with its simulated mercury pendulum, but was not tested long term. The front glass, with its decal, is wavy. The case is a Victorian design so the clock or case may be earlier. 42" x 19 1/2" x 7 1/2"

You can find videos on You Tube explaining the operation, however like other better electrics, the pendulum receives only a periodic impulse to keep it swinging; and electrical impulses are sent outward to slave clocks at either minute or half minute intervals. The dial on this clock is really a small slave, advancing only when the main movement sends a jolt of current. Outer case has been painted with heavy black paint and rubbed to gloss, but there is some orange peel and imperfections. Strike hammers have been soldered to their hubs. These pre-WWII timepieces were originally sold in nickel-plated cases and during the war offered in Phenolic cases. This example over time must have lost its nickel plating and is now polished brass. CONDITION: this is an usual small version of this popular model. Its heavy brass case has an old patina, and the silvered, signed dial shows some wear down to brass. We were unable to unscrew the retaining ring and view the movement, but it does wind, tick and set. Ht 5 1/4"

CONDITION: This two piece set was mounted on a homemade mahogany base. The two piece set with screw bezels was originally offered for use on a motor boat instrument panel. The silvered barometer dial is very nice. The silvered timepiece dial is very clean with a couple minor scratches. Hands are original. Diameter of the dial is 2 3/4". Ht 4 1/2"
