this clock has been in storage and has suffered some in time; there is loose incised brass here and there that needs affixing, and splits in the boulle veneer that need attention. The large casting of Minerva speaking to the egret retains original gilding. The top statue has about 2/3 of its gilding intact, however she is missing a flag from her own right hand, a vacant hole, and her back has a hole and pin that would have held the downward tip of the flag. Movement recently cleaned and bushed, is running and striking on bell mounted on top of case. The cast and chased brass dial retains some of its original gilding, however the cartouche numerals have met with chips and loss to the porcelain, some repaired; numeral 12 has large central loss. Hand tooled gilt hands are original. Rear door and hinges are later replacements. Clocks of this type are still made today, This one would have been made around a century after the style became popular in France, end of 18th Century. Ht as shown 35"

CONDITION:
this drum-head case is complete but has some of the expected chips, cracks and repairs in this soft stone. The large white porcelain dial, with red minute markers, has a few hairlines; the beveled glass is good as is the lower glass panel for viewing the two-horse pendulum. The six fluted columns, and curved cast friezes, have an old patina. The movement has the 1851Vincenti Medaille D'Argent stamp, and strikes every half hour on a bell. the mahogany case was refinished some time ago, and could stand some additional polish. Hour hand is original; minute hand is old, but with a shaped stem rather than straight. Engine turned dial retains original silvering. Movement is signed simply "F-C" above bell standard, and with the number 675. Original inverted crutch, pendulum, and mounting hardware are all intact. Ticks and strikes on original bell. Top mount depicts a naked lad on a winged horse, with a musical lyre in his hands. Ht 22.5"

CONDITION:
the clock, originally on a stand under a glass dome, has nice spelter figures of seated huntress, dog and bird,, with "Ph. Mourey" stamped on the back. It stone base, with some chips and cracks, has gilt cast-metal accents and feet. It's Japy movement needs a rear retaining ring, bell and pendulum, and its white porcelain dial has hairlines. The cast brass figures and the other parts of the three candle stand have some spotting, and the solid marble rectangular bases have minor edge chips. Mahogany half round molding door frames with several shrinkage cracks and some loss on the bottom. Throat door has some cracks as well. Original painted dial has some loss at the mounting pins. The numbers look to be original as the fine cracks in the dial paint show through the black numbers. The signature looks to be original and may have been enhanced. Canvas strips have been used to repair cracks in the backboard. A new piece of wood was used to repair the head at the top. The throat tablet looks original with some loss. Bottom tablet is not original. Period hands. Pendulum is missing. T-bridge brass movement with through bolts and a straight click pawl. The design of the spring that contacts the pawl is very similar to one pictured in: "Willard's Patent Time Pieces" by Paul Foley, pg. 37 that lends some credence to believe that this is a Cummens banjo. CONDITION:
Refinished mahogany veneered case with a couple of chips on the base, a repair on the door and on the cornice. Original painted dial is pretty nice for its age with a small paint chip at the seconds hand. Hour and minute hands are original. Seconds hand is a replacement. CONDITION:
Mahogany veneered case in a very old finish with repairs. The scrolls and the feet have been repaired with some minor damage to the tips on the front skirt. Original painted dial with Masonic emblems is quite nice for its age. Hands are original. Original painted tablet with general loss. Movement is the proper one with some minor repairs and was made by Ephraim Downs who was supplying movements to Hoadley when he first began making these clocks. Finials are not original. A couple of the small pieces of the backboard have been replaced. Label inside the case is dark but readable. Ht 29"

Austrian, Long Duration, floor standing "Vienna Regulator", 2-weight, time and strike, with an engraved arched dial, and with matching engraved weights, pendulum and pulleys, appearing to run and strike for 9 to 12 months on a single wind, c1890.
CONDITION:
although minor items need attention, suspension spring needs renewal and seconds hand is missing, this clock is otherwise in excellent original condition, with nice finish on the walnut case, original hardware, hands, dial, etc. The heavy high quality movement has 3 plates [an intermediate one for reduced stress], and maintaining power; 6 wheels in train, winds to right] Note carved gargoyles flank the door, which has heavily beveled glass. The top carved wreath may be removed if desired, and the clock looks fine without it, just that it came that way, so we took original accordingly. Case separates above base for easier transport; door over dial has double latches and lifts off/out rather than hinged. Note weights pass through oval hole in waist board for final 3 months. Overall exceptional quality. Ht with extra crest 101", with only original top carving 98"

Dutch, Peter Klok, Amsterdam, 2-wt Dutch striking movement, with penny moon and calendar, square brass lower dial with pinned on painted arch, in a mahogany and walnut veneer floor standing case surmounted by 2 carved trumpeters and with atlas in the center, c1760
CONDITION:
Peter Klok is recorded working at Amsterdam 1750-80, and the floating lady or 4-season spandrels are commonly used about 1750 -1760, but rarely later. It is still a question why the dial's arched section was made separately and attached to the square dial below, however there is no evidence of re-work, and the pinned and bent brackets appear to have been there for over 200 years. The case has been refinished at some time, and some minor loose joints need attention. Lower left of dial is bent; can be straightened. Interesting penny moon shows the elapsed days for the phase in two bands below the circular opening. Ht 100"

James C. Cole, Rochester, NH, tall clock, 8 days, time, strike and calendar, weight driven brass movement with typical New Hampshire cut outs in a cherry case with applied bracket base and an American painted iron dial, c1815
CONDITION:
the case has been professionally refinished. The glass in the hood and the side of the hood have a crack. The dial frame, fretwork and finial plinths are replacements. The dial is in very good condition. The second hand is replaced. The tin can weights are original. There are two pieces of paper pasted into case describing very early provenance (see photos). This lineage proves to be authentic as John Marston III, son of John Marston, Jr. and Olive (Sargeant) Marston, was born May 7, 1783 at Metheun, Mass., He and wife Susanna had a son Joseph Marston, b. Feb. 25, 1829 at Jefferson, Maine. The family afterwards settled at Salem, NH where John Marston died Apr. 25, 1865. Joseph Marston married and lived at Metheun, MA and died between 1910 and 1920. This is a good example of a signed New Hampshire tall case clock. Ht 90"
