CONDITION: the best is an oval Duverdrey & Bloquel with an 11-jewel platform. The two French plainer cases also are in good condition; one with a lever platform, the other cylinder. The Waterbury has lost its gold plating but otherwise is complete. Balance staffs are okay. All the white enamel dials look good, and most of the glasses are fine with very minor corner chips and a small crack in one front panel. Sold as is, no further condition reports. All approximately 6" high to lifted handle top.

CONDITION: the Down has a partial inside label and dial with some flaking, but nice reverse-paint glass and tiger-maple flat columns, ht 26.5", no weights. The pillar and scroll is an unusual later full-size model in overall nice condition, but damage to the two front feet, ht 32". The lancet also is in very nice condition with porcelain dial and convex beveled glass, ht 9". The small Ansonia is original but only in fair condition, ht 8".

The unsigned movement strikes its hours and quarters, and the balance staff is intact but ticks only briefly. The leather case is intact and in better shape than most that we find. CONDITION: we see no damage on this highly ornate case, and only the most miniscule losses to the gilded accents. The porcelain dial has small chips around one winding hole. There never was a hinged bezel, front glass, or rear door. The unsigned small round movement has count wheel and bell half-hour striking, but will need a pendulum. Like many French mantel clocks, this would have originally been covered with a glass dome. Ht when standing on its base is 13", ht of clock alone is 11.75"

CONDITION: Case with original gilding, dirty, and with some staining and minor losses, small spots of verdigris, would clean up well, glasses very good, dial mask and frame with toning, enamel dials very good, minute hand repaired, movement with some staining at upper right on back plate, movement running and striking, will not run a full week, would benefit from service, Ht 6 1/4" to top of handle. The clock has a two position lever at the case bottom for strike mode selection, silence and quarters. All four quarters sound, not just the usual three. We thought this may have been an error in function, but the clock strikes and repeats consistently, and so appears to be functioning as intended.

CONDITION: the little screws retaining the movement in the case are absent (use care when handling!) but otherwise the ornate case and complicated movement appear to be in good condition. The balance platform, signed "T. Marlin & Co., 151 Regent St., London", may be later, and is intact but needs cleaning. The signed porcelain dials both look fine; one side glass panel has a small round chip, and the top glass needs to be secured. The movement back plate also carries this famous Swiss maker's name. The case retains its pivoted plate to cover the winding and setting holes. The quarter-hours and hour counts are struck on a sweet rear bell. Ht to handle top 5.75"

CONDITION: case polished and with coating of spray lacquer {some orange peel}, dial replaced {fired porcelain}, hands good, alarm hand may be replaced, rear glass with chip at upper left corner, gongs with minor oxidation, movement running, striking, and repeating correctly, alarm train functional, but spring is broken, the sweep second system appears to have undergone restoration, and is now functioning well. Note there are 3 empty pivot holes which remain a mystery. Ht 6 1/4" to top of handle

DESCRIPTION: French lacquered brass, brilliants, and beveled glass "Anglaise riche" case 8 day time and strike carriage clock, c1890
CONDITION: the old lacquered finish is spotty and dull in place, but still looks good. Two of the beveled glasses have corner chips; the other glasses are okay. The porcelain dial is fine, surrounded by rhinestones and a very ornate cast and pierced mask. Some of the glass stones are slightly smaller, probably replacements, and there are extras in a bag inside the base. There is a small unexplained hole in the back bottom of the case. The unsigned movement will tick and strike, but needs cleaning. Ht to handle top 8"

DESCRIPTION: French brass and beveled glass 8 day time, strike and repeat carriage clock, c1900
CONDITION: the case is complete and intact, except for the bottom cover which often is absent, and the beveled glass panels are fine. The white porcelain dial has a horizontal hairline across the center. The silvered lever platform ticks briskly, and the strike and repeat appear to function properly. Ht to top of handle 7"
