DESCRIPTION: A mini grand daughter tall case with rocking ship and chiming Westminster chimes on the quarters, unsigned but surely from the workshop of Elmer Stennes of Weymouth, Mass, c1965
CONDITION: the burled elm veneer has some losses at knots, filled in. The clock lived its life in the presence of a smoker and dial has gone from cream color to light brown. DESCRIPTION: E. Howard & Co., Boston, "Regulator No. 12" wall clock, in original grained cherry case, now less bottom trim molding, and with a stand that allows it to be used as a floor clock, c1875
CONDITION: a simple molding may be restored to the bottom to keep it a wall clock, or it may be used with the later base. The original glass jar for the pendulum is gone, replaced with a red brass cylinder. There is no known source for this glass jar. Mirror in case back trim has been replaced. The top bezel had separated a bit and was filled and sanded rather than being carefully turned. Other than these items the clock is basically original, and will respond to restoration. This is one of Howard's finest movements, complete, sound and properly signed; dead beat escapement and maintaining power. The original flat iron weight descends down the right side of the case, suspended from original pulley; weight hidden by a baffle which was removed for the photo. Also with original beat scale and hands. Original dial is excellent. We sold a cousin to this clock in 2008 for $56,000. Ht in Original = 57", overall on base = 73"

DESCRIPTION: English, London, 4-tune, musical bracket clock, Georgian era, with unusual serpentine dial and door by Will'm Challenner, triple fusee, playing on 11 bells with 14 hammers, retains original crown wheel/verge escapement, and with central calendar hand, c1760
CONDITION: this clock was formerly in the collection of the late Robert S. Rosen of Los Angeles. Around 40 years ago, the dial rings were sent for refinishing and got lost in the post and so new ones were ordered with a sketch of the information. Anyone who has ordered from Goodacre Engraving knows that whatever you write down, including style is what you will receive back, net result is that careful spelling and lettering of the tunes came back exactly as written on the paper, rather than in the style of the period. Similarly, a sketch of the chapter ring with calendar had the dates down with irregular spacing, and so it was made. If you can get past the need for better dial rings, what remains is quite wonderful, the clock playing 4 recognizable tunes at intervals and on request, the back plate very nicely engraved with foliate pattern, and the case with original caryatids and other trimmings, and the escapement has never been modified from the original. While Tiffany often used imported movements in their clocks, this clock was made in the Tiffany Clock Shop in New York, under the supervision of Joseph Lindauer, who was in charge of operations in their clock manufacturing shop. The patent referenced on the back plate was held by Lindauer for a simplified striking mechanism, which was used in these clocks. The striking mechanism has a design flaw which does not re synchronize the Westminster chimes after the hour strikes, so the chimes often play the incorrect sequence at the various quarters. That said, this is a rare and impressive (and extremely heavy) clock by a desirable maker, and well worth restoring
