CONDITION: At first we though this was a reproduction, but Chris Bailey has seen several and is confident the frame and case are period, with some sanding and shellacking where uncalled for. Note with the lot is a 70 year old foto showing that the clock at one time had the original Ives weight driven movement. Now with spring driven long drop movement, and the iron dial re-drilled to fit the existing movt. [note in foto, orig winding holes are intact]. Finally, the original reverse painted tablet in the foto is BROKEN, now included loose with the case. A good project for someone. Ht 43"

CONDITION: Hotchkiss was not a maker of the pillar & scroll style, but parts from another style of his became the foundation of a well-made reproduction slightly higher than normal to accommodate the longer-drop pendulum. The wood dial, with one horizontal crack, is newly painted, as is the lower door tablet. The case has a bit of veneer loss at the top, and is missing its door lock and escutcheon. CONDITION: there is an old finish, with minor veneer losses, on this large case. The original inside label remains, with some staining. The movement is stamped Plymouth, which usually indicates late 1860s, however Seth Thomas did not replace the "Plymouth" die for stamping the movements until years after Plymouth became Thomaston (probably until it wore out) & perhaps as late as the 1890's. All three glasses are old; the middle mirror and bottom glass are cracked. The painted metal dial has just a few losses, and nice script lettering. The two columns need to be secured at their bottoms. No weights. Ht 32.5"

Note we have never had a Seth Thomas Sons & Co. movement in a French marble case, as all ST Sons black cases of this style were painted iron. Conclusion: looks good, runs fine, but a decorator piece.
