Modern mahogany banjo timepiece in nice condition. The movement is marked E. O. Stennes as well as the weight. The tablets are by Tom Moberg. The problem is this case does appear to have the same quality of craftsmanship as would befit Stennes. Maybe someone was able to obtain a Stennes movement and weight and make their own case. The whole case has been finished inside and out with a heavy and shiny coat of varnish or shellac that is not typical of a Stennes. The lip on the throat panel and the banjo head are stamped 18 with no other markings, but overall it is still an attractive timepiece. Ht 29.5"

However, it looks OK. The paper dial has seconds track. Note that the lid hinges lost their brads, but this is easily remedied. The rear wind time only movement ticks and stops. It is very similar to movements on clocks with genuine Boston maker's names on the dial including Willards which were finished from English castings.

2 of these old movements look complete and usable. The 8 day brass works has rack & snail strike and grooved barrels. The wood movement is thick and chunky, on an old probably original seatboard. The most unusual is the cutaway 30 hour brass, complete with bell, pulleys and seatboard with a little "restored 1933" plate.
