DESCRIPTION:
Seth Thomas Clock Co., Thomaston, Conn, "REGULATOR No. 14", floor standing jeweler's regulator in walnut, with mercurial compensated pendulum, hinged storage in base, and with center sweep seconds hand, from the Bob Wasserman collection, c1892 (dated), No. 170.
CONDITION:
a nice and clean all original clock, even down to a fine white outline along the case edge, where the wall was painted behind it [shows only on the closest inspection]. A further description of this model can be found in all Tran Ly's Seth Thomas books, see pages 404 & 406 of 3rd edition for case and movement details. The heavy engraved silvered dial is missing some of its numeral wax, and with some wear and discoloration. The high quality movement is dated Oct. 26, 1892, with ST logo and number 170. Note it retains original striped pattern on the plates (inside and outside) and original lacquer (with minor losses to lacquer). Graham style anchor with jeweled pallets and jeweled 'scape wheel arbor. Glass thumbprint jar on the pendulum is excellent. Note mercury is held in a lexan jar outside the auction hall. Like all clocks from Milanville, this one is in good running order. Has original ST nickel plated crank with wooden knob. Photos tell much of the story of this fine clock; pictured in place in the Wasserman home. The full provenance of this clock is included in a frame; Bob purchased it on the internet for $28,100, from Edna Greenhaw, whose husband had purchased it around 1965 for $50 from Wood's Jewelry Store (George Hammond Wood) in Athens, Alabama.
