Part of the hour pipe has been replaced with brass. Original painted dial has some inpainting in the center area. Repainted tablet. Original hands. Nice set of period finials. Clean label inside.

DESCRIPTION: Reproduction skeleton clock, 8 day, time only, spring driven movement with silk thread suspension mounted on two sides of an arched glass plate with etched floral border, brass feet, roman numeral silvered chapter ring with blued steel hands.
CONDITION: This clock was damaged in shipment to the original customer and a repairman worked on the great wheel to return it to the proper shape, leaving many marks on the back side. This work does not show from front. Patterned after French glass plate clocks, this has bushings embedded into the glass for the front pivots and bridges behind for the rear pivots. Runs OK. No dome is included. Chapter ring is very good as are the hands. Plate glass with etched flowers is also very good.

Tablet is a type sometimes found on Whiting clocks, but this example looks to be a later copy. Movement was made by Whiting. Clean label inside.

DESCRIPTION: Smith & Goodrich, Bristol, Conn., box shelf clock, 30 hour, time and strike, spring driven brass movement with wooden fusees in a mahogany veneered case with painted metal dial and blued steel club hands.
CONDITION: the mahogany veneered case has some small veneer losses that have been repaired. The well done proper style stenciled tablets are probably not original. Very nice inner label. The old painted metal dial has losses around the winding arbor holes and at the bottom and may have come from a different clock. The unsigned movement has had some poor repairs-- most notably a verge that has been installed backwards. Astonishingly, the clock seems to run in this configuration, though we cannot say how well or for how long. The rim of the wood fusee on the left has a missing piece. Minute hand has been repaired.

DESCRIPTION: Terryville Manufacturing Company, Terryville, Conn., candle stand clock, 30 hour, time only, spring driven brass movement with four-arm balance wheel movement, 2.75 inch paper on zinc dial signed "Terryville Mfg. Co. / Terryville / Conn.", black steel hands, all on a white milk glass pedestal under small glass dome.
CONDITION: the milk glass pedestal is in very good condition. The paper dial is probably a replacement, as is the red felt on the top of the stand and rope at the base of the dome. The movement is quite oily, but ticks nevertheless. Original back cover is stamped "Terryville Manufacturing Company, Terryville, Conn., Patented October 5th, 1852". An nice example of this pre-civil war clock.

CONDITION: the brass case has an even, dark patina. The molding retains much of the original gilding. The curved glass sides and beveled rear door are excellent. The black lettering on the signed dial has partially come off of the numbers on the bottom. The front ceramic panel has gilt borders and finely painted scene featuring a young woman and cupid. The panel is signed "Neumann" in the lower right corner. The two vial pendulum is of the compensating type. The pendule de Paris movement is signed with the Vincenti award stamp from 1855.

CONDITION: Mahogany and gilt case in nice condition with original tablets, hands and pendulum. Original painted dial has darkened a little with some small loss at the winding arbor and mounting screws. Movement is signed.

Lot#: 480

DESCRIPTION: Waterbury Clock Co., "Sambo" blinking eye novelty clock, 30 hour, spring driven balance wheel movement with linkage to animate eyes in a painted cast iron case depicting a man with a banjo, roman numeral paper dial with blackened steel spade hands.
CONDITION: the paint on the figure appears original. It is flaking in spots and does not reveal another layer below. The paper dial is an old replacement from E. & J. Swigart Company. The signed Waterbury movement is out of beat, but and wants to run nevertheless. The ratchet wheel has many broken teeth, so the clock must be wound with care until that wheel is repaired. The linkage from the movement to the eyes is detached and will need to be serviced.

CONDITION: The case is in excellent condition with original finish. The original painted time dial shows some loss. The original painted calendar dial shows minor loss at the mounting screws. The time hands are original. The calendar hand is period but has been shortened. The door glass is original. The calendar drum papers are original.

DESCRIPTION: Waterbury Clock Co., Waterbury, Conn., "Ship's Bell No. 16" clock, barometer, and thermometer desk set, 8 day, time and ship's strike, spring driven balance wheel movement in a bronze finish case taking the form of two yacht wheels.
CONDITION: Bronze finish case has significant spotting, which appears to be degradation of the protective lacquer. The original Waterbury clock movement has been replaced with a Chelsea movement that is likely of much higher quality and fits the case very well. The Chelsea movement is serial number 559671, dating to around 1950. Good silvered dials. Mercury thermometer is intact and working.

CONDITION: The case, with original finish, is in very good condition. The original painted dial is in good condition with minor loss at the winding arbors and some strengthening to the numerals and chapter ring. The hands appear replaced. The movement is signed. The door glass and stencilled design are original. The side glasses are original with minor gold paint touch up to the gilt moldings holding the side glasses in place.

CONDITION: Rosewood and rosewood veneered case with a poorly applied newer finish possibly the original. There is a small piece of veneer missing on the panel that supports the dial. The dial paper is replaced. Original hands, tablet and pendulum. The base of the center finial is missing. Dark, but readable, partial label on the back.

CONDITION: The case is in very good condition with original finish. There is some minor surface scuffing near the top door hinge. The original painted time dial is in very good condition with minor flaking. The calendar dial is in excellent condition. The movement is signed. The labels are excellent. All hands are original except the day of the week indicator which is a replacement.

The carved pieces found on each side of the top crest are missing. Parts of the Geneva stop on the movement are missing.

CONDITION: case in outstanding condition, dial excellent, hands with the slightest oxidation, nickel plated movement with small springs is signed, back door with a bit of oxidation.

DESCRIPTION: Wm. L. Gilbert Clock Co., Winsted., Conn., "Octagon Drop Calendar" wall clock, 8 day, spring driven brass movement with Galusha Maranville's patent calendar in a mahogany veneer case with painted metal dial and black steel Maltese style hands.
CONDITION: The case has been nicely refinished with no chips in the veneer. Original painted dial with some losses at the bottom and the top. There are some touch ups to the white paint near the center and at the edges. The hour and minute hands may be replacements. Bottom tablet appears to be original. There is a clean label inside case. A good looking specimen.
