Joseph Johnson, Liverpool, a gold lever fusee pocket watch for the American market, 17 jewels, key wind and set gilt full plate "Liverpool Runner" with aperture in balance cock, contained in a 14 karat yellow gold, engine turned and engraved hunting case, marked "H. & McL.", possibly Harper & McLean of Philadelphia, roman numeral white enamel dial, gold fleur de lis hands, serial #19281, 52mm, 134.1g TW, c1850.
CONDITION:
CASE: Very fine scratches on outer surface of case; Fine scratches on dome; Engraving with moderate wear; Engine turning nearly worn smooth; Front cover with minor gap at band when closed; Bezel hinge with damage; Bow gold filled and with significant brassing; Precious metal content tested. DIAL: Faint hairline at 6:00. HANDS: Minute hand broken. MOVEMENT PLATES: Barrel bridge with dings; Barrel bridge with oil staining and verdigris around mainspring setup ratchet; Barrel bridge screws replaced; Specks of dirt. MOVEMENT FUNCTION: Not running, good staff, will tick with pressure on train, fusee chain not attached to barrel.
