DESCRIPTION: England, a mid 19th century stick barometer, the mahogany and mahogany veneer case, square, chamfered base containing the cistern with applied, carved ears and bottom, and with carved, four petal cistern cover and turned roundel cap, the tume rising through a mahogany veneered mid section with flanking, molded oval mirrors, the arched, molded top with carved and punch decorated crest, beveled glass, ivory barometer scales and set indicators, adjusted by two setting squares below the display
CONDITION: in an old and possibly original finish, with dirt and minor losses, cistern cover broken, but all parts are present, corners of moldings at top with minor misalignment and gaps, crest loose, minor break and veneer blistering and loss below crest, glass good, scales dirty but otherwise good, one scale adjusting pinion missing, arch above scales may originally had a maker or retailer's name, column filled with mercury. Note to non U.S. bidders: the presence of ivory in this lot will require a CITES permit for export. All permit applications, fees and arrangements required to secure an export permit will be the sole responsibility of the winning bidder. The presence of mercury in this lot will require the winning bidder or a buyer's agent to pick up the item at the auction, or make arrangements to collect it from the Schmitt - Horan office.
