DESCRIPTION: Possibly France or Switzerland, an unusual electromagnetic hanging timepiece, the stained hardwood case with deeply incurved, foliate carved bottom bracket with turned drop, line carved base molding above two turned drops, glazed door with fluted columns having turned, vasiform bases and carved capitals, and on molded, fluted plinths, the frieze with applied carving, cavetto cornice molding and removable, carved crest, roman numeral white enamel dial with sunk center, pierced steel hands with concentric seconds indicator, nickel plated movement with two wheel train, mounted to a nickel plated bracket with nickel plated electromagnet and indistinct logo or trademark, the bracket fixed to a rectangular white insulating plate, steel, openwork pendulum rod with toggle, and heavy, brass clad bob
CONDITION: case dirty and with modern lacquer over what may be an earlier surface, right side cornice molding detached, central turned drop broken, front cornice molding with three filled holes, dial and hands good, dial movement gummy, should function after service, movement appears complete, rust at underside of coils, pendulum rod with a few specks of oxidation, all Hipp toggle components present, pendulum bob with minor oxidation, condition of circuitry unknown
