DESCRIPTION: Johann-Christian Bauer and/or Carl Bauer, Fürth, Germany, 400-day clock, year running, spring driven brass movement with torsion pendulum and pinwheel escapement, brass base and posts holding movement and topped by a balustered gallery that sits on the movement plates, arabic numeral white enamel dial reading "Sylvester / anniversary clock", black steel spade hands, and heavy two-ball pendulum, all under a glass dome.
CONDITION: the clocks is in excellent condition with bright brass. The velvet covering the base has been replaced. Dial is excellent. Suspension is complete and unusual with the fork pointing backward. Rare pinwheel escapement. Movement back plate is stamped with serial number "65". The front plate is stamped "PATENT 29.IV.01 / No. 120072". Carl Bauer of Fürth, cousin of J. Christian Bauer, registered the trademark "Jahresuhr Sylvester" so he may be the maker. It is estimated that fewer than 1000 of these clocks were made and fewer than 12 have been positively identified.
