DESCRIPTION: England, for John Henry Potter, Scarborough, a large quarter chiming bracket clock, walnut and walnut veneer case on cock beaded feet, the base with beveled edge, case with canted corners, and caddy top with handle, the sides with gilt, cast baroque sound frets, gilt leaf and dart molded arched door with bevelled glass and conforming, silvered bezel, composite dial with matted center and engraved plaque below 12:00, "J.H. Potter 32 Cliff Scarboro", silvered roman numeral chapter ring, gilt spandrels, and three subsidiary dials in the arch for control of the chiming functions and regulation, blued steel fleur de lis hands, large fusee movement with rise and fall regulation, recoil escapement, and chiming the quarters on eight bells or four gongs, and counting the hours on a fifth, larger gong, and heavy brass clad pendulum
CONDITION: case dirty, veneers with minor splits and checking, feet, top molding, caddy top and handle replaced, door now with gold paint, glass good, door will not close far enough to allow lock to engage, dial good, all dials lacking black infill, hands with minor oxidation, movement dirty, complete, will tick, chime and strike if assisted, needs service, chime drums incorrectly oriented and so fail to complete the quarters, slot in pendulum rod for crutch pin too wide, gongs and some other steel components with minor oxidation
