DESCRIPTION: England, a good early 20th century inlaid mahogany tall clock, the bracket feet supporting a base with mahogany and satinwood cross-banded frame with inset panel having floral marquetry and scrolled foliate border, the trunk door also with satinwood cross-banding surrounding a neoclassical urn with bellflower and trailing vine, terminating in a lion's head, the dyed marquetry elements with pen work detail, heavily molded bonnet with canted corners and broken arch terminating in paterae inlaid roundels, composite dial with silvered roman numeral chapter ring, foliate pierced and engraved spandrels and arch fret surrounding a silvered chime / silent indicator, dial center with floral and acanthus engraving, pierced blued steel hands, 8 day, three train brass movement with Graham deadbeat escapement and maintaining power, sounding Westminster quarters on gongs and striking the hour on a larger fifth gong, pendulum with heavy brass clad bob, and mismatched iron weights.
CONDITION: old finish with minor crazing, rear right foot repaired, case with minor dings and scratches, some veneers with minor blisters, trunk with splits at upper right and left corners of door, astragal molding on right side is an incorrect replacement, bonnet sides with splits and missing glasses, chapter ring, chime / silent, and seconds bit have been resilvered, hour hand a very poor replacement, minute hand with minor oxide and bends, escape wheel is mounted backwards on its arbor (easily corrected because it is mounted to the collet with two screws), movement is dirty and oily but the trains are free and function when pressure is applied by hand.
