DESCRIPTION:
Ansonia Clock Co., New York, NY, "Juno" swinging mystery clock, 8 day, time only, spring driven movement mounted in a metal sphere with bowknot ornament, applied brass arabic numerals, and Louis XV style hands, all attached to a gridiron style pendulum terminating in a smaller ornamental sphere, the clock held aloft by a cast figure of the goddess Juno.
CONDITION:
The spelter figure has lost most of its bronze patination, but is in good condition. Signs of typical spelter degradation on the surface. Original red lacquer finish is no longer on the spheres, revealing the brass color underneath. The cast gilded elements are in good condition. The suspension spring is kinked, but appears to serve its purpose. The movement is signed by Ansonia. In the Roman pantheon, Juno was queen of the gods.
