Boley, Germany, "F1" watchmaker's lathe, 50 mm center height, accepting 8mm WW style collets, headstock with integrated index plate and latch, flip-up tool rest, tailstock with Jacob's chuck, second tailstock with runners for work on pivots and staffs, 60 watt motor, all mounted on heavy gray steel bed.
CONDITION: The Boley F1 was designed for the turning of pivots and staffs. When used for these tasks, the lathe was operated from the tailstock end. The paint on the lathe is chipped and cracked in a few places. The headstock is fitted with a grinding wheel, suggesting it was used for this purpose. The motor ran well during our brief test, but was not tested extensively.

DESCRIPTION: Switzerland, watchmaker's wheel cutting engine, brass with iron legs and steel hardware, screw feed adjustment for positioning cutting spindle, 5.25 inch diameter brass dividing plate with 30 rows of holes, the counts ranging from 11 to 360, 19th century.
CONDITION: shaft to crank that adjusts the depth of cut is bent and prohibits the crank from making a full revolution. There are a few very small scratches on the inner portion of index plate where the latch was not raised adequately before turning. The tool has a nice patina and is well made.
