DESCRIPTION: Admiral Fitzroy, "Improved Torricelli Barometer", English, in an oak case with carved top and carved bone stations for bone knobs for indicator hands. The enamel backing the barometer and above thermometer gives full details on use of the instrument and below that is a storm glass.
CONDITION: the case is in excellent condition with the finish rubbed down. The enamel is in excellent condition. There is a large air bubble in the mercury tube and there is no liquid left in the storm glass.

CONDITION: movement with minor scratches and minor, scattered spotting, running well, dial with a few minor spots, minor scratches and a bit dirty, hands good, tub and gimbal with old lacquer, scratches and minor discoloration, shock mount in old lacquer, box refinished, top with split, hinges polished minor loss to infill on Heinrich plaque, key holder replaced, key good. A very nice, early example of this well known firm's work.

DESCRIPTION: German Eureka, battery powered, electro-magnetic timepiece mounted on brass base under dome with large exposed rotating balance.
CONDITION: This timepiece has been nicely restored to working condition as evidenced by the letter included describing the repair work performed. The dome is not original as this current dome is 5.75" in diameter. The dome should be about 6 3/8" in diameter to sit on the next level down from the top of the base. For reference please see the thorough examination of these German eureka's detailed on pages of 38 - 44 of F.G. Alan Shenton's "The eureka Clock".

DESCRIPTION: Tall case clock retailed by G.W. Russell, Philadelphia, 8 days, time, strike and chime on 5 tubes, three brass weight driven movement in an ornately carved oak case attributed to R.J. Horner, New York with gargoyle top, fluted and turned corner columns topped by Corinthian capitals on hood, cut out frets, beveled glass doors, carved corner columns, two raised panels on each side, resting on a base with checkerboard panels on sides and front on huge furry paw feet. The engraved brass dial has applied corner spandrels, silvered chapter and second's rings and moon phase.
CONDITION: the case has been professionally refinished. The gargoyle carving has a small piece missing and its nose has been restored. A 2" portion of the upper right rear carving has been replaced. The clock is absent one of the three pulleys and the pendulum has been replaced and has a bob that is undersized. Three of the tubes are marked "HARRINGTON PATENT" with a trademark stamp. The dial is in good condition. An impressive clock.

DESCRIPTION: Walter H. Durfee, Providence, Rhode Island, for J.E. Caldwell & Co., Philadelphia, Penn. on dial, 8 tube hall clock, 8 days, time, strike and quarter chimes. three weight driven, damascened movement. Plays Westminster or tunes on "Bow Bells". Tubes signed by Walter Durfee with patent dates 1892 & 1896. The case is carved mahogany with an ornately carved pagoda shaped hood with carved urn finial above dial, bent pyramid top surmounted by a square carved finial at apex. The trunk and hood doors have matching brass escutcheons and beveled glass. The carved curve base resting on bracket feet has a retailer panel with presentation plaque to "GEORGE & LAURA HOLL 1873. JUNE 25TH. 1895". The brass dial has moon phase, engraved spandrels and dial center, silvered chapter ring, strike / silent and tune selector discs. [Note: George Holl, Jr. (1840-1915) and Laura Stockton (1851-1920) were married June 25, 1873 at Camden, NJ and lived the rest of their life there. This clock was a 22nd. anniversary gift.]
CONDITION: the case retains its original finish, nicely rubbed down, with some repairs and restoration to bent pyramidal surface and finial on pagoda top and several minor age splits on base. Some of the fretwork needs to be reglued but is mostly present and the front of the feet have been trimmed back. The dial is in excellent condition and is signed Durfee on the rear. The rare "Bow Bells" playing movement chimes "Whittington in imitation of the "Bow Bells" in the city of London striking on all eight tubes. The "Westminster" feature plays the famous chime in the belfry of the House of Parliament in London on four tubes. Please see Tran Duy Ly's "Longcase Clocks and Standing Regulators" page 142 for reference. This is the first Durfee Bow Bells marked model we have ever sold.

The brass dial signed Durfee has a silvered chapter ring with pierced brass spandrels and dial center, moon phase depicting sailing scene, strike / silent and tune selector dials. The case is mahogany and has carved cornice moldings, carved paw feet, carved broken arch top with flame finials and four full columns flanking hood, sunburst carving above trunk door flanked by four full columns and beveled glass in hood and trunk doors and raised panel on base. There are exceptional lion's head escutcheons on both hood and trunk doors.
CONDITION: the case retains its original finish with some scuffing on paw feet and wear around trunk door. There is a split in the lower left molding on hood. The dial is in good condition The pendulum rod is a replacement, the suspension spring is absent and the crutch opening needs widening. The movement needs cleaning. The crank is original and the door keys are present. This is a handsome clock and a top of the line product with the very desirable Durfee signature on dial, movement and tubes.

DESCRIPTION: John Joyce, Ruthin, Wales, musical three train tall case clock, 8 days, time, strike and musical weight driven movement playing one of seven tunes (including a hymn on Sunday) every four hours on eight bells and single bell hour strike with painted cast iron pendulum bob. The case is a high styled mahogany veneer case with carved rosettes on broken arch, three carved urn finials with flame tops, dental moldings, fluted columns flanking dial, inlaid banding surrounding doors, fluted quarter columns with brass Corinthian terminals and matched crotch mahogany veneers on trunk with matching raised crotch mahogany panel on base with fluted columns on base resting on ogee bracket feet. The painted metal dial is signed by maker, "John Joyce Ruthin", and has seven tune selector subsidiary dial, sweep center calendar and beautifully pierced hands.
CONDITION: the case retains an old finish rubbed down and waxed. The trunk is door is warped but will close and lock. The key is absent. There is a vertical split on the crotch mahogany base. The feet, hands and finials are original. This is a nicely proportioned original example in the formal English style of a period musical tall clock.

The painted metal dial with maker's signature has date calendar and moon phase. The dial's false plate is signed "PATTON & JONES PHILA".
CONDITION: the case in good condition with some minor splits on plinth and hood and has been refinished about 60 years ago. The bracket base appears to be original but has lost an inch. The trunk door has a small repair near lock. The movement appears complete and in good condition. The disc of the moon phase is in good condition. The hands are replaced and there is touch up on numerals that should be improved. The weights and pendulum are period. The signature on the dial is original and appears to be "No. 6". We are also selling Herwick's No. 15 in this sale. CONDITION: the case has been refinished with a rebuilt sarcophagus top. There is a repair to the upper left and side of the outer trunk door. The trunk door lock has been raised. The feet have been replaced. The minute hand has solder repair. The movement is typical of Aaron Miller, who was one of New Jersey's earlier clockmakers and father-in-law of clockmaker Isaac Brokaw (clock also in this sale): It has square dial mounting posts and wooden winding drums. CONDITION: the case has an old finish with some veneer separation around door frame and a one inch piece absent from top of door. The front feet are very old replacements. There is a minor split on the right near the access door. The glass vial on the pendulum, formerly filled with mercury now contains a metal cylinder. The pendulum will need a new suspension spring and the door lock will need adjustment or replacement. The dial is in excellent condition. This clock has a great diminutive appearance for an astronomical regulator and is in good condition.

The dial is in very good condition. The bell, weights, finial and pendulum are replacements. The hour and minute hands are great period originals, while the sweep seconds hand is a replacement. The signature on the dial is original and is "No. 15". We are also selling Herwick's No. 6 in this sale. Davis, Philadelphia, 8 days, time, strike and chime playing Westminster or Whittington on 9 marked Herschede Crown Symphony tubes, three brass weight driven, Germany stamped movement in a mahogany case with full columns flanking dial, beveled lower glass, paw feet and sunburst on base and hood. The brass dial has silvered chapter ring, second's bit, tune selector and strike / silent selection, applied cast and engraved dial center and spandrels and moon phase.
CONDITION: the case retains its original finish with minor blemishes. The Crown Symphony tubes sound very good despite two professional repairs. The dial has some minor oxidation. Herschede began manufacturing their own movements in 1910, rather than importing the highest quality from Germany and England. Therefore, this fine clock dates prior to 1910 with a high grade German movement and Herscede's high end Crown Symphony tubes.

DESCRIPTION: Michael Strieby, Greersburg, Penn., tall case clock, with significant restoration. 8 day, time and strike, weight driven movement in a cherry case with broken arch top, five turned wood finials, star inlaid rosettes and four full columns flanking hood, string inlaid cut corner columns, reeded accents on base and cutout Hepplewhite bracket feet. The painted metal dial with maker's signature has date calendar, sweep seconds and moon phase.
CONDITION: the clock looks great in spite of its significant restoration. The dial (and maker's signature) , hands, false plate, bell and seat board are new. The risers supporting the movement and pendulum are new. The backboard, rosettes, finials and trunk door are new. The rest of the clock movement and case appears to be circa 1820. Streiby, a Revolutionary War veteran, was born in 1757 in Bucks County, PA and made clocks there until about 1790 when he moved to western Penn. and worked in the town of Greersburg (which is now Darlington, Beaver County, PA) until his death in 1830.

This clock once belonged to the late Irving Cooperman a well known collector of Rockville Centre, NY and a former Vice President of NAWCC. His stamp is inside the case.
CONDITION: Refinished mahogany veneered case with some veneer repairs on the base and the sides just below the columns. Original painted dial is very nice for its age. Original hands. Tablet is a modern repaint. Feet have been replaced. Readable Terry label inside and Ohio repairer's label.

DESCRIPTION: Ethel North, Torrington, Conn., 30 hour miniature "east-west" movement shelf clock.
CONDITION: Refinished mahogany case made by David Winship. The scrolls are basically original, but the scroll ends have been replaced. The feet and skirt are replacements. The tablet is a modern repaint yet is flaking. The dial, and pendulum are original, but the dial has several cracks, repairs and some poor touch up and loss. The ivory door escutcheon has been replaced by a brass escutcheon and a brass door knob. The three sold brass finials and the steel hands are replacements, but are the correct shape and size. The movement has original gears, but a poor repair on a strike wire. Has original weights.

Original painted dial with a small loss between two and three o'clock and in a couple places on the outer edge. Hour and minute hands are original. Seconds hand is a replacement. Very nice well preserved wall paper inside the case as well as a very nice label. Original tablet with some minor restoration. Original eagle pendulum. All of the pulleys are replacements.

CONDITION: The large mahogany veneered case with maple accents on the flat pilasters in very nice condition in an old and possibly original finish. The feet show little wear but they are the same type as found on other Brace cases. The upper door glass is original. The lower door mirror is a later replacement. The original painted dial is in good condition with some age darkening and some horizontal losses. The hands are original.

DESCRIPTION: Japy Freres, Paris, France, mantel clock for the Asian market, 8 days, time and gong strike, spring driven movement with Japy Freres Medal D'Or stamp in a brass case with decorative blue painted porcelain panels featuring Japanese garden motif and matching dial and insets and pendulum regulation through the dial above 12.
CONDITION: the clock appears to be in original untouched condtion with one brass trim piece detached but preent. The porcelain panels are in very good conditon with no breaks or chips. The movement is a little loose and will need tightening and it ticks, but is dirty and the strike needs adjustment. With the recent popularity of Asian themed clocks and the growing Chinese market, this clock has great appeal.

H Schiller, Utica, New York, 8 days, time and gong strike, spring driven movement in a black and red portoro marble case with bronze sphinxes reclining on top flanking a black marble urn with bronze head at apex and other fancy bronze trim, figures of Egyptian gods applied to front flanking a very unusual black marble dial with cut Eastern style numerals.
CONDITION: this very unusual, heavy and attractive clock is in excellent original condtion with only a couple of small flakes in the marble top. The bronze is nicely patinated and the dial with its unusual markings is fascinating. The movement is fully wound and is neither ticking nor striking.

The white enamel dial is signed by maker.
CONDITION: the case retains remanants of its original gilding and the back covering the movement is a replacement. The dial has some damage surrounding and above the right winding arbor. The movement appears to be recently serviced and is ticking and striking.
