Unsigned, most likely American Clock Co., NY, large iron front, 30 hour, gong striking. This is the same iron case as shown in "A Treasury of American Clocks", pg 178, fig 395. The case would have been available to several Connecticut clock firms, C.1860
CONDITION:
the tip to the hour hand is missing. Much of the stenciled gilt pattern is worn away. There are some chips in the floral decorations. In spite of the losses, it is still a good example of mid 19th Century clock making. Glass is absent from bottom bezel. Original dial is very clean. Ht 20"

Seth Thomas Clock Co., Plymouth Hollow, Conn., Circa 1860, 30-hour time/alarm "Procter's patent Burglar and Fire-Detective clock" novelty mantel clock.
CONDITION:
rosewood veneered case in clean condition in an old finish with a couple of very minor veneer flakes on the base a ding on the back left corner. Original gilding on the door molding with some loss. Door mirror is original. Original dial has some paint loss at the winding arbor, small area on the right side and at the mounting pins. Hands are original. "C-Type" movement has been factory modified to trip a match mounted in the holder on top of the case to strike and light the small lamp when the alarm has been set. A string could be a attached to movement that when fastened to a door would set off the alarm in case of an intruder or in case of a fire the string would burn and also set of the alarm. Examples of this clock can be found in Tran Du Ly's "Seth Thomas Clocks & Movements 3rd ed., Vol. 2, pg. 736". There is a pretty good label (85%) on rear of the case, darkening but legible. Ht 12"
