DESCRIPTION: Dwarf tall case, reproduction of the Nathaniel Mulliken style, using a Seth Thomas No. 2 movement, a nicely made country style mahogany case with dovetail construction.
CONDITION: the workman has made a wire and bob pendulum. He has made a dial of brass, with the numerals cut or engraved into the brass. Because of the length of drop the clock will run about 10 days. Has been recently serviced and is running briskly. The weight is a turp can filled with lead, and with a guide added to each end of the can, painted brown. Guides in the case keep the weight away from the pendulum. Ht 41.5"

CONDITION: this clock has been restored once, and the numerals strengthened. On re-assembly the little brass washers that belong behind the chapter were put on the front [an easy exchange]. Wires in the battery silo indicate it has been wired for an external battery pack. Details on Bulle can be found in the book "150 YEARS OF ELECTRIC HOROLOGY", 1992 by Nawcc, pages 15-16. CONDITION: this clock has been nicely restored. The dial professionally refinished by the Dial House in Dallas, GA (with raised gilt corners and crackle finish). Mov't is complete and sound, strike side cord broken. Label is outstanding. Note the stenciling on the columns is original, however case refinished and paw feet are recent. The double portrait tablet is very well done and would cost $150 alone. Details on Levi & James Frisbie can be found in Oechsle & Boyce's book "An Empire in Time" . They purchased movements from Jeromes & Darrow, which ours has, although ours does Not have brass bushings on the winding arbors, which later Frisbie clocks had. Ht 30"

Original painted dial is pretty clean for its age with some wear to the gilding and minor paint loss. Hands are original; tip to minute hand is short. Top glass is old, now held in place with wood strips. Bottom glass is a reverse-painted replacement. Label is dark with losses through mfg name, but enough remains to determine the maker. Running. Africa & the East. Simply stated the arch contains a scene with a turbaned rider on a camel meeting a guard with a spear. This is a large dial, 13w x 18" high.
CONDITION: the movement appears complete and sound. Dial is good with wear to signature. Seconds hand is replaced. Has seat board, but no pend, pulleys nor wts.

DESCRIPTION: English / Scottish, Painted dial and movement for a tall case clock,8-day, time and strike, as found, less weights and pendulum, neat "Father Time" dial, and interestingly, the movement has Graham's design dead beat escapement and Harrison's ratchet maintaining power. C.1850.
CONDITION: this is an interesting piece with good potential. The last workman converted this to a ding-dong tube strike, adding a bracket for 2 tubes and making a double ended sleeve to strike both tubes when the hammer fell. This can be easily converted back to a regular bell strike. The dial is signed Jos. Josephs, Redrum, but the best part is the well executed hand painting of Father Time in the arch. Hands are later, surface rust on steel parts; wheels still turn fine. Dial measures 12 x 17"

There is an adjusting screw at the top of the movement that with an extension that would pass through the top of the case to regulate the pendulum. DESCRIPTION: Parker Clock Co., Meriden, Conn, , C.1890, "No. 11" desk timepiece, 1-day, in a well made cast brass case, a trinket tray at bottom, and the clock hanging from 2 chains.
CONDITION: there were originally finished with a gold wash which is now rubbed mostly to brass. However this clock is otherwise in excellent original condition, with good ivorene dial bearing the Parker trademark. Rear winding key and set stem are built in and still intact. Hands are original. Like most of Parker's small clocks, this one uses his reliable #1 movement. Details on this model can be found in Ly's book titled "American Clocks", page 190, fig 667. Price guide for 2001 = $475. CONDITION: clock took a bump in shipment, and the paper dial got pushed up on one side, but is correctable. Clock lived in a moist climate and the nickel finish is oxidized. Otherwise the clock is in good original condition, with proper hands, good beveled glass and the Ferris wheel itself is complete and intact. Ht 11.7"

CONDITION: this refinished case has had a hard life and there are filled holes in the back. Baffle is replaced and there is no tie-down. Abrasion top left of lower bezel. The current movement is not as deep as a Howard, and so has slotted strips installed to hold the back plate. The dial is new. It does look the part and runs OK. Essentially you are buying a Howard case and unknown movement. Original tablets are nice. Ht 34"

DESCRIPTION: Ansonia Clock Co. New York, C.1906, "GLORIA", swinging arm timepiece, 8-day. Note this clock is as-found, for a plumber came to check the furnace last week and caught his tool apron on the brass support for the ball. He grabbed the ball but the brass support broke away clean with Gloria's hand. Apparently not wanting to discuss his actions, he put the broken support into his apron and said there was no damage. This turned brass rod is available from Timesavers.com, and a reasonable repair can be effected.
CONDITION: the statue retains original bronzed patina, deteriorating and with about 20% loss. This is a long clock arm. Minute hand on ball is broken, piece taped to ball. Ball is refinished to dark blue. There is corrosion on the vertical rods. The bright spot in detail foto is where the stud broke off. Ht 28.5"

CONDITION: the rosewood veneer on this case is really in exceptional condition....there are a few minor chips on corners, but nothing major, and the overall appearance is excellent. Inside are the stops for and slots for the original Mix Bros patent calendar mov't, however, the once a day cam on the movement and all rods are now absent. Iron weight and pendulum are original. On the front panel is the shadow from a removed ad for Geo, H. Richards, Salesman, Keene, NH. {finish is original} Ht 40"

Although we tend to see the grand sonnerie models with double animation {examples in Kaltenbock's "Viennese Timepieces", pages 167-9}, the hour strike automatons do not turn up that often. Ht. 16"

DESCRIPTION: Massachusetts Lyre over Box banjo timepiece, C.1840, 8-day, weight driven, with carved mahogany front and blind lower door, with restorations.
CONDITION: as you can see from the foto, this is a good looking clock. However it is not for the purist. A rectangular portion of wood behind the head has been totally replaced with a lighter section of wood, and the movement is from another banjo clock. Three empty holes in back of head. The center and lower baffles are both missing; no pendulum tie down. Barb style hands are new. Carved leaf lyre cover is not as old as balance of clock. Dial is old/ period, but extra holes around the head indicate another dial earlier. Ht 39"

CONDITION: the fancy dial and mov't may be from an Ansonia marble case, as the tabs do not meet the case properly and the movement is loose. However fancy porcelain dial is perfect and mov't is clean and running. There are a couple of very minor edge chips to the case, + a 1" hairline in rear of case. CONDITION: this is not a restoration project for the timid, however when done should result in a seven thousand dollar clock {We note that D. Roberts antiques have sold a couple of these for 5000 pounds sterling]. You will need to make motion works, an escape wheel and arbor, a verge, ratchet and catch for the spring barrel and you will need a chain. A couple of frame screws and the bell are also missing. CONDITION: red marble section that makes up the top of the case is cracked and re-glued with a frontal chip at the repaired area. The marble base has some roughness on the edges. Beveled glass panels are perfect. Original porcelain dial has a fine hairline at about 6 o'clock; otherwise perfect. Hands are original. Movement is signed with the same name as on the dial. DESCRIPTION: A C.1915 custom Banjo case, with a c.1910 Chelsea weight banjo movement, rope front, Boston State House Glasses, as-found.
CONDITION: the top of the head has been routed out to accept the Chelsea mov't, but this appears to be because the case maker simply didnt leave enough room for the movement. Notice that the bottom box of the case is square, rather than rectangular; it appears that a good woodworker sketched his plans from a foto without understanding the true proportions. He also was given an odd weight that is two inches deep, and so he made the case nearly an extra inch deep to accommodate this weight. The painted dial needs restoration, now has a paper glued over, and coming loose. Rope trim on sides of lower door lacking. Overall an interesting clock that can be enjoyed as-is or the movement used in a Chelsea banjo or office regulator. Serial #8549. Ht 40"

DESCRIPTION: Atkins Clock Co., Bristol, Conn, 30-DAY Fusee timepiece with Atkins round movement attached to iron fusee support in a "Drop Octagon XX" case that originally had just a regular 8-day time movement. The movement was changed long ago, and the to glue block been there a long time. A 3/8 inch old pine back has been added for reinforcement.
CONDITION: the top glass got cracked in shipment, lower tablet is fine. Strip of ripple molding has been replaced; rosewood case refinished. Clock runs and keeps time. Our estimate is based on the value of the movement alone, which we removed to inspect the case and to take a better foto. DESCRIPTION: Chinese, Reproduction INCLINED PLANE TIMEPIECE, the circular canister rotates as it goes down the plane, however the movement is counterweighted so it maintains a fixed position. The downward motion provides a constant force to the time train. When the clock/canister reaches the bottom, the movement will stop and the unit must be moved again to the top of the plane.
CONDITION: unlike its French counterpart, this clock goes only for a day. This clock lived by the ocean, and the brass canister is oxidized a bit. The mahogany stand has picked up salt from the air and has a white film and is warped a bit. The sister to this sold Feb 28, 2010 by C. L. Horton for $460+10%. Width of plane = 21"

CONDITION: although the original porcelain dial has a filled chip at the winding hole, and sever hairlines, the movement is clean and in running order. The spelter case was originally with gold finish over copper, now worn to copper base. Retains original gilt doll pendulum. The movement with Farcot trademark; note this movement has a conventional escape wheel with "fork" on the verge to change direction of swing. DESCRIPTION: French, for Tiffany, Circa 1900, 8-day time & gong strike porcelain clock in the form of a church bell retailed by Tiffany & Co., NY. This is a porcelain version of the bronze "Pater Noster" clock that we have sold in the past {there is also a mini brass in tomorrow's session}. Has a fancy trademark of the porcelain company inside the case. The circumference has 8 angels in relief, each playing a different musical instrument.
CONDITION: where there is not damage, the porcelain ceramic case is in good condition. However, the handle has broken off and been glued back on and there is damage on the edge near the rear cover, and one foot has been reglued. Original ceramic dial is good {signed Tiffany & Co}, with just a small amount of ceramic loss outside of 8:30. The hands are original. Not for the meek, however this is worthy of sending out for porcelain repairs; see internet for services. Movement has a large lever platform spanning the round plates at top. Ht 12.5"

CONDITION: the case has been refinished, and the bezel swelled apart at some time and has been glued back together, and the seams filled with wood dough; the veneer was sanded through to pine in a couple of places on the bezel. Balance of case is OK. This clock is using the earlier rectangular movement, held to the iron mounting with pins. Dial is original with some wear to numerals, but no flaking evident. German pulley is easily replaced with ST copies available from Timesavers.com Inside of case has not been stripped, and label is good with some losses. Ht 36"

CONDITION: this clock has a lot of potential for the right Welch collector. The top center finial belongs on the side as an inverted finial (you need to make another and replace the 2 incorrect ones that are in place), then you need to copy the very top rt or left finial (both are original) for the center top. If the cabinet maker had seen a Welch book, he would have known what to do in restoring this, but he only guessed. Mov't is good, label on back with some loss, but still generally good and pendulum is outstanding. Finish is original; never stripped, gilt trim door glass perfect; rear dust paper intact. CONDITION: refinished mahogany veneered case in very clean condition with some remains of the original stenciling on the splat. Center glass was most likely a mirror, but has been replaced with an eagle glass. Bottom tablet is original. When the current owner purchased the clock the original movement had been removed, but saved and replaced with an eight day spring movement. As a result, the original dial, which is pretty clean, has a plugged hole. The original 3-tr movement has been restored to the case. The alarm disc and verge to the alarm ratchet wheel are missing. DESCRIPTION: F. Kroeber, New York, "Vienna Regulator" unlisted model shown in Ly's Kroeber book, page 471, fig 1669, ours now with-out the bottom splat.
CONDITION: overall in good restorable condition, the splat for the bottom can be made quite simply, and the 3 bottom finials are original Kroeber issue. Top finial is incorrect, but can be replaced. Signed movement. Original hands; hairlines on dial. Note this is an especially good mov't in that it has 40 teeth in the 'scape wheel and thus with 80 beat mov't, it has a seconds hand that goes 'round once a minute [unlike Beckers]. Serial #28961, numbers match on mov't, bracket and pend. Note pend stick broken and repaired w/ brass strip Ht 39"

DESCRIPTION: Forestville Manufacturing Co., (J. C. Brown), Forestville, Conn., C.1845, 8-day time/strike column & cornice shelf clock, 2-wt.
CONDITION: mahogany veneered case in very good condition with what appears to be a later coat of shellac over the original finish. Some veneer loss and chips on the base and the edges of the top molding. Top molding has some damage on the edges. Original signed painted dial is very clean, with good signature. Hands are replaced. Tablets look to be prints applied to the glass with a coating of brown paint on the back in an effort to simulate age. The label is good, missing most of the "J C Brown", but you can still make it out. Ht 31.5"

DESCRIPTION: French, S. Marti, 3-piece garniture, gold painted white metal, with hand painted plaques and side urns, 8-day, strike, with fancy painted dial with floral wreath and gilt brass hands.
CONDITION: rt. rear leg on clock is hanging by a thread and will need attention. Entire clock case and side pieces have been over-brushed with gold paint that is starting to lift. Top, center finial has been turned to match original and painted white. Dial and hands are excellent; mov't complete and sound, No pendulum. Ht 16.5"

CONDITION: orig paw feet are intact. some missing veneer and couple of chips on the door, escutcheon lacking--now veneer; both glasses are replaced, top an old piece. Curtain design is an amateur attempt on lower glass. Good label and very good dial with some darkening. Movement is proper, complete and sound, but dirty. Note pineapples carved into the top of the columns. Ht 35.5"

DESCRIPTION: Austrian, Gebruder Resch (Remember), smaller 2-wt, with 5.5" dial, as-found, LESS weights and pulleys. Has rod strike. Walnut case has robust 3/4 columns with heavily carved capitals and a nice carved head in the "built in" top, plus carving on the base.
CONDITION: this clock got separated from its top finials, weights and pulleys. The movement appears to have always been in this case, however someone added a spacer under the mov't to try to keep the pendulum from rubbing on the strike rod. Mov't is complete and sound and the porcelain chapter and engraved center are perfect, and dial center matches pendulum in both pattern and gold color. Numbers on mov't pend & bracket all match. Potential here. Ht. 39"

CONDITION: refinished mahogany veneered case in very clean condition with a small veneer repair and a couple of chips on the base. Both tablets are original with lower tablet being a nice Fenn glass Wooden dial, although nicely painted is a later replacement. Hour appears to be original. The minute hand is old, but looks to be a replacement. Dark, but readable label inside case. Ht 33"

DESCRIPTION: E. Terry & Sons, Plymouth, Conn, C.1830, remains of a pillar and scroll that ticks and strikes through the dirt.
CONDITION: case is absent its entire top and scrolls, and feet are replaced and too short; original tablet got broken around 30 years ago, and amazingly we found the pieces to tape it together for the foto; label is pretty good with minor losses. The Terry movement should be worth $200, or the case is a challenge for the able restorer. The dial although from a column/splat is excellent. Hands are original. Weights are replacements. Ht 25"
