DESCRIPTION: American Waltham Watch Co., Waltham, Mass., a model 1892 "Special" grade pocket watch for the Denver and Rio Grande railroad, 21 jewels, stem wind and lever set, adjusted, damascened nickel plate movement with lever escapement, cut bimetallic balance with gold screws, gold jewel settings and Church micrometric regulator, the top plate marked "D. & R.G. Special" in a nickel, screw back and bezel open face case, the back with later Denver and Rio Grande RR applique, and arabic numeral, outer red 5-minute markers, double sunk white enamel dial marked "D. & R.G. Special", with blued steel spade hands, serial #7902796, together with a late 20th century enamel Rio Grande fob and oak storage box
CONDITION: CASE: Case has housed another movement; Fine scratches on outer surface of case; Pendant with a few marks and scratches; Crystal with tiny edge flake; Text added to case back is removable. DIAL: Hairline at 1:00 and fine scratch over 11, otherwise very good. HANDS: Minor oxide, tip of minute. MOVEMENT PLATES: Very fine scratches on plate; Tiny pin pricks; Cluster of fine scratches at case screw near balance; Fine scratches on balance cock foot; Winding wheels with a few specks of oxide; A few specks of oxide on regulator. MOVEMENT FUNCTION: Running order (winds, sets and ticks); Low amplitude, needs service. Box and fob good.
